2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Always be wary of kids peaking too early. I'm not saying that Simon has done that, but someone evaluating him could certainly get that impression, as it seems that his play has dropped off somewhat over the past two seasons. Injuries and loss of surrounding talent (Zordich, Beachum, Hill, McCarthy) also have to be factored into the equation.

Simon hasn't attended close to as many "events" as others have. Once he got that Buckeye offer he had nothing to prove. Services can't grade what they don't see.

Yes, we all understand that. It is conceivable that Bellamy, who seems to be tearing it up on both sides of the ball, Carter and maybe Reid Fragel could get elevated to where they belong eventually, and even Johnny once again, too. We'll see. After all, Rivals got it right in the end w/BigMike, I'll give them credit for that.

The Rivals250 - 10-14-08

Of note:

#27 Dorian Bell
#29 Jamie Wood
#43 Corey Brown
#47 Jamaal Berry
#57 Marlon Brown
#67 C.J. Barnett
#69 Frankie Telfort
#72 Marcus Hall

#98 Corey Adams
#109 Chris Fields
#162 Corey Linsley
#205 Storm Klein
#213 James Jackson
#222 Brad McDougald

Out: John Simon, Jordan Whiting

On Corey Brown's move:
Big mover: Rivals.com was on hand to watch him early in 2008 and he proved he?s belongs among the nation?s best skilled players.

On Melvin Fellows' move:
Recorded 92 tackles, seven sacks and nine batted passes in 2007. Has struggled some as a senior as teams are running away from him, but he does still have a high ceiling.

Further bolstering the notion that more often than not, uncommitted recruits do not sell subscriptions...exceptions to the rule include Corey Brown and Matt Barkley (11 INTs in 5 games). And somehow Jack Lippert and his offers from Pitt, Temple and Buffalo remains at #170 while guys like Simon and Eric Fields drop out of the Top 250 completely.

Honestly the rankings just get sickening eventually. Hall is way too low, Adams is way too low, Marlon Brown is WAY too low, Fellows is WAY too low (and having an unbelievable senior campaign, which Rivals just said he didn't as justification for droping him), and Bell stays the same. In Rivals defense on commited vs. noncommited, Brown is dropping and he is uncomitted. Problem with that is that there is now way on earth he should be dropping any. Simon not even being in the top 250 is astounding...he may have reached an early ceiling (though I don't know about that), but even still he is at bare minimum top 250, and should be top 100. I just can't believe it.

I think Simon is pretty overrated, at least by Ohio State fans, but dropping him to 3* stars is pretty laughable. I don't think he's a top 100 guy, though...not enough production in high school for someone as big and strong as he is, and I think his frame is about maxed out as.

I'm also not that high on Brown. Big kid who dominates terrible competition, and I think he eventually grows into a TE; however, I'd still welcome him in this class for sure.

ESPN - College Football Recruiting - ESPNU 150

Revised ESPNU 150...of note:

#12 Jaamal Berry
#16 Dorian Bell
#17 Marlon Brown
#30 John Martinez
#40 Frankie Telfort
#53 Corey Adams
#73 C.J. Barnett
#78 Marcus Hall
#93 Jamie Wood
#108 Melvin Fellows
#125 Jack Mewhort
#150 Duron Carter

Bold = offered
Bold and Red = OSU verbal

LSU has 10 in the top 150, while USC has 9. Considering there are 48 still uncommitted in the top 150, I'd say there's a good chance LSU and USC will each end up with around 15 each in the top 150, which would be 1/5 of the entire top 150 between two schools. Not that I'm insinuating anything...

They keep saying "the bottom prospects" but doesn't every team have "bottom prospects" who are moreso legacies, position fillers, backup plans, etc? In essence, I can agree with what they are saying somewhat but they make it a point to say this every time. I agree with wad and jwins, they just need to stick to player reviews. But the complaining is nearly over, as I'm going to work on my very own top 50-75 over winter break
