2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Not a problem...just letting you know we update this thread every time one of the major sites updates their rankings.

In his defense, Rivals lists the last update to their recruiting rankings as coming on January 4, which would be 3 weeks after the last post updating the Rivals rankings in this thread. For a minute I was appalled that the moderators of this site would allow such an egregious error to occur, and was about to ask for my $77 back. But after I checked the Rivals home page and compared the rankings of today with those from the link you last posted, I realized that you were in fact staying on top of things, and all was again right with the universe.

I only subscribe to Rivals, and use BP commentary to summarize the rest of the available info. That said, if Rivals does not elevate Carter and Simon, and possibly Fragel, (I haven't made up my mind yet), to 4star for their final rankings, then a change will most likely be in order for the Alpo recruiting spending wallet.

Here is for a pretty good laugh...He usually does a pretty good job, but his USC/ state of California bias is shining thru on this one...I like that he tries to get away from Scout and Rivals and ranks some guys that are not looked at as good from those sites, and doesn't care how early they committed... but 15 from Cali and only 3 from Ohio...That is ugly...No Jamal Berry, Melvin Fellows, John Simon...

Fvsports

24. Corey Brown
51. Tajh Boyd
52. Marcus Hall
56. Dorian Bell
75. Corey Adams
85. Marlon Brown
99. Jamie Wood

Just going off the top of my head, and not making a whole 100 ranking out, but I would have:

Dorian Bell
Corey Brown
Melvin Fellows
John Simon
Jamie Wood
Jamal Berry
Justin Green
Duron Carter
Jack Mewhort
CJ Barnett

All at least top 150 players in the country...I thought Mewhort looked better than the Walters kid (TX) ranked very high in most rankings in the UA game...

Excluding Duron Carter and Mewhort, every Ohio State commit previously in the ESPN 150 dropped.

- Jaamal Berry (12 to 22)
- Dorian Bell (16 to 33)
- C.J. Barnett (73 to 89)
- Jamie Wood (93 to 99)
- Melvin Fellows (108 to 123)
- Jack Mewhort (125 to 125)
- Duron Carter (150 to 130)

But this is coming from the same service that said Beaver was still going to Michigan, so take it however you would like.

Scouts Weigh in on the Top 25
(free)

I think I got them all...

Scout.com can be seen as one entity and one voice in the recruiting world, but in reality, Scout.com is a collaboration of dozens of voices from across the country. It should come as no surprise to recruiting fans that rarely do all of the opinions agree. Here is a look at several Top 25 Rankings from the team members of Scout.com.
If you find yourself not agreeing with the rankings on Scout.com, you're not alone. There's a pretty good chance, we don't agree with each other as you can well see.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - The Battle for No. 1: Why Bryce Brown? (free)

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Brown takes top spot in final Rivals100 (free)

Rivals.com Prospect Rankings (free)

Updated 1/13...of note:

#31 Corey Brown (44)
#33 Dorian Bell (30)
#49 Morgan Moses (13)
#51 Tajh Boyd (86)
#52 Marcus Hall (75)
#53 Marlon Brown (57)
#56 Jaamal Berry (47)
#74 Jamie Wood (32)
#82 Justin Green (82)
#89 Corey Adams (100)
#90 Duron Carter (NR)

Dropped out: Melvin Fellows, C.J. Barnett

BOLD = Offered
BOLD & SCARLET = Buckeye

Corey Brown got a fifth star...Duron Carter was bumped up to a 4-star...and as was to be expected, Jamie Wood and Morgan Moses slid several spots. No explanation for Fellows dropping out.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt about Barnett, but Fellows had a great senior year and looks to be a monster prospect in college. Another case of Scout giving a Buckeye verbal a 5* grade and Rivals leaving that same player outside the top 100 (John Simon). Weird.

Simon isn't just out of the top 100, he's not even a 4 star according to Rivals.

I still cannot get over Corey Brown being ranked the No. 40 ATH in the nation by ESPN. Not the No. 40 recruit overall in the nation. The 40th-ranked guy at the 'athlete' position. 2 spots behind Ohio's own Darrell Mason (not meaning to knock him...probably a decent rating from the little I know) and right behind some kid going to Central Florida.

I really want to give those guys the benefit of the doubt...they've really increased their coverage of recruiting the last few years and all that and I like their recruiting shows and whatnot...but I just look at that particular rating and think 'what a bunch of clowns.'

In scrolling through their database, it seems they have Brown as somewhere around the No. 400 overall prospect in the country. If your system spits out that kind of rating on this kid...time to get a new system.
