2009 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

To me, this is always the best PA list out there because they interview a lot of people to get it, including Joe Butler who has been an NFL, college, and HS scout for probably 30 years. He started BLESTO scouting. Anyway, they have nice things to say about our PA players this year.

1. Dorian Bell, Gateway HS (Monroeville) LB - Not necessarily huge at 6'0" and 230 pounds, but that's hardly a problem when you combine his speed, athleticism and strength. Has the natural ability to even be a great wide receiver prospect if he chose, but he was born to play linebacker. Plays the run, plays the pass, great blitzer; can basically do everything a linebacker needs to do, and he does it to a high degree. Chose OHIO STATE over more than 50 offers, including Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Florida, Michigan and Florida State.

4. Corey Brown, Gateway HS (Monroeville) CB - What's a top 50 list without a couple of Gateway Gators at the top? Needs to add some size to his 180 pound body, but he has excellent cornerback size at 6'1". Excellent high school wide receiver who projects to cornerback at the next level. Not a speed demon, but has good speed to go along with great hands, athleticism, body control and toughness. "Best cover corner I've seen in the state in awhile," says Butler. Chose OHIO STATE over Pitt, Penn State, West Virginia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Alabama, among others.

20. Jordan Hall, Jeannette HS (Jeannette) RB - Once the second banana to superstar Terrelle Pryor, it's now his turn to shine. Not that he wasn't successful as a junior, as he ran up and down the field at will. Very good speed and athleticism. Only 5'9" and 180 pounds so it's not known if he can ever be an every down back. Even if he isn't, he would be a nice change of pace back, receiving threat and return man. Chose to join Pryor at OHIO STATE, with other offers coming from Pitt, Penn State, Michigan and Notre Dame.

Wow, it is so sad to see how few prospects are headed to the Big 10 outside of OSU... And some wonder why the Big 10's recent overall bowl record is suspect.

That is hilarious considering Fellows pulls down almost 3 sacks and 8 tackles a game...from DE, that is plain sick. Dumbest move I could see on the list. Nice to see Corey Brown move up and I'm wondering why Bell is staying at #27 with him tearing it up at RB. Oh well.

looks like Simon dropped quite a bit in this latest rivals update. His profile shows him as a 3-star now...not totally unexpected from that outfit...they've had negative reviews on him all season long it seems...

John Simon - Football Recruiting
Always be wary of kids peaking too early. I'm not saying that Simon has done that, but someone evaluating him could certainly get that impression, as it seems that his play has dropped off somewhat over the past two seasons. Injuries and loss of surrounding talent (Zordich, Beachum, Hill, McCarthy) also have to be factored into the equation.

They still list him as 4-stars here:

Rivals.com Prospect Rankings

I've noticed in the past that it's a gradual progression to get to the position rankings as they make adjustments to their 100, 250 & beyond.

Dropping JSimon down to 3 may almost inevitably mean that we will not finish w/Rivals No1 '09 recruiting class, especially when you consider we lead USC by a very narrow margin now, (which just got further diminished), and they have 9 less commitments.

If you look at who we are potentially in on, most are 4's, yes, but USC and LSU, (not to mention the traditional late Florida surge), are in on many more including, a few 5's. I can't possibly imagine that we take as many as 5 more...even if we do get a plethora of transfers, so how much further we can increase our total would seem to be limited, excepting of course some of our 4's become 5's, but that list even got slimmed considering that they dropped Fellows out of range of 5.

Oh well, not that any of this matters, but I would like to have seen it.
