2009 Polls - Regular and Pre-Season

And therefore never worth discussion? We know, man. Is it not still interesting?

Only to a point.

The coaches poll is what counts. Right now if Oklahoma can somehow beat Texas and someone in the Pac-10 (Oregon) can stop USC, Ohio State might get up into the top 4 if they continue to beat the team in front of them.

The coaches poll will adjust accordingly. The AP poll has people like Doug Lesmaries (or however you spell his name) putting his stupidity on display for the rest of us.

I agree the Coaches Poll is more meaningful, and will be more beneficial for Ohio State. I still like to discuss the AP, we all know it doesn't matter in the BCS, which is what counts, but I think it is intriguing to study. It's more of a social observation imo.

Agree. But oddly, for the AP to not count for shit...it seems like it holds more merit than any other poll. Which is why people continue to say USC won that NC.

1. UF
2. Texas
3. Bama
4. VT
5. USC
6. Boise

We would need a BSU loss, a 2nd USC loss, a Texas loss and a 2nd VT loss just to get into a 1 loss beauty contest with Texas and the SECCG loser(which we stand zero chance of winning).

I'll be thrilled with a win in The Game and to see us in the actual Rose Bowl game for the first time in ages.

Hell I gave you two of those and I think when it comes down to it, we are going to see teams starting to jump Boise each week from here on out.

If Oregon beats USC it helps Boise but I agree they'll start to get dropped.

Other than that, looking at the schedules, VT and USC getting those second losses is a stretch.

Texas with 1 loss might as well be Texas undefeated. How do we get the nod against them in the polls?

Also I know the precedent is for no rematches but if given a choice between a 1 loss SECCG loser and a 1 loss OSU to play, lets say, UF for the NC I have a hard time believing the pollsters take OSU.

Jax, we only have to get to 2, not one. Regardless, I think an SEC team gets in Championship game.

I don't think its much to ask for Va Tech to lose one more to someone they shouldn't. OU could very well win vs UT and win out meaning UT couldn't win its own conference (and played a shit OOC schedule). I actually think the biggest question is USC losing another game. I don't see Boise making it in vs any 1 loss Big 5 school (I'm not counting the Big East). So we're asking for 3 very possible things to happen.

I know we only need to get to #2.

I don't buy the auto elimination of Texas but I hadn't considered the "didn't win the B12" angle.

VT and USC have to each drop another game. That's a given.

The best we could hope for in the SEC is a 1 loss Bama team getting drilled in the SECCG by an undefeated UF team. If both teams are undefeated and its a close game I'd be willing to wager a significant sum of money the pollsters would vote for a rematch instead of sending OSU to play the winner.

That's a minimum 4 way parlay we need to hit, plus run the table ourselves plus outshine Boise in the polls.
