2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

Right, because they had terrible seasons. :shake: I can see the argument for others to be there, especially Spiller, but to say it's "bullshit"...I don't see that.

McCoy had 3512 passing yards with 27 TDs and 12 INTs and also had 348 rushing yards and 3 TDs. Oh and he also led his team to a 13-0 record. Had more passing yards, a better comp %, and 1 less total TDs than Troy Smith did when he won it. Both went undefeated too. Tough to argue against him at least being in NYC. Pretty sure he'd be there with these numbers if this was his first year as a starter. But I don't think he deserves the award.

Tebow had 2413 passing yards with 18 TDs and 5 INTs. That alone is pretty good, even without his 859 yards rushing and 13 TDs. He was one good game away from winning the thing. He won't win it, but I think he deserves to be there.

The only guy that is not there that deserves to be there is Spiller. They should have invited six.
Right, because I said they had terrible seasons. :shake::shake::shake:

McCoy's numbers were piled up against lousy defenses. If you're including him, why not Boise's Kellen Moore? Plus, he layed an egg on a big stage this weekend. Tebow may have more of an argument, but IMO Spiller and maybe even Golden Tate are more deserving of the trip over those two.

They both had nice years, but take away their previous resume, and neither of them are going to NY.

You know who else deserves to get mentioned? I know a lot of people aren't going to like this but Jimmy Clausen had an amazing year this season. I personally don't really like him very much and I wouldn't give the award to him cause they were 6-6 but he did have a great year.

I stick by my earlier prediction that Suh will win. If you'll notice, Suh continues to lead in actual ballots counted by the StiffArm site, and the "predicted" outcome has continued to rise in the Suh direction.

cause he's a beast!! I'm with Suh all the way.

Spiller I give you. Lay an egg or not...McCoy won, and made a nice pass to Shipley at the end to get into FG range. Without him Texas isn't even close to as good as they are this year.

Tebow's defense let him down more than anything.

I guess I just assumed you thought they had terrible season because you said it was "bullshit"

I may not agree with them going, but I see it as plausable. I also feel that McCoy would be there without previous years. Being the best player on a team that goes to the NCG usually gets you to NYC. That's exactly what he did.

Tebow I feel wouldn't have gone if he was an unknown going into this year. While I don't think it's bullshit that he is there, I do think it's bullshit that Spiller is not there.

Colt was unfairly screwed by perception last year, but is benefiting unfairly from it this year.

The other 9900 players in CFB would not have a prayer of surviving 1 awful outing (OU), let alone multiple (ie Nebraska). Tebow would. Ingram might. The rest do not.

The only reason Texas survived OU is because they kept pace with their own sloppy mistakes as well.
McCoy had 3512 passing yards with 27 TDs and 12 INTs and also had 348 rushing yards and 3 TDs.
1) In this first 6 games, his TD/INT #s were comparable to pryor.
2) Big game #1: 21-39 127 yds 1 td 1 int
... Big game #2:
Oh and he also led his team to a 13-0 record.
Which also means he enjoys a teammate advantage that Suh, Spiller & Gerhart will never enjoy, even for a game.
He was one good game away from winning the thing.
I doubt that, but if it were true, it would prove how worthless the award is. He was a great leader but not a peerless player this season. Peerless is what he did in 2007, not doing just enough to win in many games but still being a heisman favorite because of previous seasons.

Man I'm having a really hard time trying to decide who I want to win.

On the one hand-- Gerhart.. Total stud. Shouldn't be punished for not playing 2 days ago. He makes Stanford's team.

On the other-- Suh. A monster. It would be awesome to see a defensive player win it, especially one from Nebraska! I love Nebraska.

But... Ingram. One reason: Heisman Hex  . I am rooting hard for Texas, and I'll take any mysticism I can get

Gerhart, Suh, Ingram

Gerhart led the nation in rushing but Ingram was 5th and averaged 6.2 per carry versus 5.6 for Gerhart. Ingram didn't get as many carries but did face some better defenses.

Suh is a game changer, as we saw Saturday.

One guy who isn't mentioned at all but I think should be is Dion Lewis for Pitt. His numbers compare to Gerhart's and if you saw Pitt you realized how dependent their offense is on him.

Not sure I see the Spiller talk. Yes, he makes some flashy plays but he was 28th in rushing and averaged 5.7 per carry, compared to 5.6 for Gerhart and 5.5 for Lewis. Again, Ingram averaged 6.2
