2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

Gerhart, Suh, Ingram

Gerhart led the nation in rushing but Ingram was 5th and averaged 6.2 per carry versus 5.6 for Gerhart. Ingram didn't get as many carries but did face some better defenses.

Suh is a game changer, as we saw Saturday.

One guy who isn't mentioned at all but I think should be is Dion Lewis for Pitt. His numbers compare to Gerhart's and if you saw Pitt you realized how dependent their offense is on him.

Not sure I see the Spiller talk. Yes, he makes some flashy plays but he was 28th in rushing and averaged 5.7 per carry, compared to 5.6 for Gerhart and 5.5 for Lewis. Again, Ingram averaged 6.2
Spiller also has a ton of yards and TDs receiving the ball. I think that goes overlooked a lot.

The only counterpoint I can offer is Ingram has much better talent surrounding him than Gearhart does...

True that Ingram had more talent, but he also faced MUCH tougher defenses and torched them. VaTech, South Carolina, Florida, LSU, Mississippi state...he did damage to the best defenses that the SEC had to offer, other than Auburn.

Spiller scores as a runner, receiver, passer, kick & punt returner. He also racks up yardage on a team with regular trouble up front.

Ingram is a special player, but I still get hung up on how effective Coffee, Ingram & Richardson have all been the last two years.

Some Heisman voters are posting their ballots online as the 5 p.m. ET deadline approaches, and it appears that Nebraska Ndamukong Suh is getting legitimate love.

ESPN.com's Chris Low posted his ballot, which had Alabama's Mark Ingram first, Suh second and Stanford's Toby Gerhart third.

The Clarion-Ledger writer Kyle Veazey posted his ballot, and said he had Gerhart first, Suh second and Boise State's Kellen Moore third. There were others who felt the same way.

None of ESPN.com's Heisman Watch voters put him higher than fourth, but he might surprise some people and sneak past a handful of big-name quarterback in the Heisman voting.
looks like gerhart and suh are both getting love. good news.
