2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

After Jahvid Best and Jacory Harris had mediocre performances in games where their teams got blown out, it's time to look for some more contenders in the race.

These guys need to be looked at as candidates at this point in the season:

Greg McElroy, QB Alabama
Tony Pike, QB, Cincy
Blaine Gabbert, QB, Mizzou
Russell Wilson, QB, NC St

If these guys are seriously candidates, I vote for cancelling the award this year.

Perhaps it's time to look seriously at a defensive player (I'm thinking Eric Berry here) as a candidate; he's a far better football player than any of these posers.

I really hope Colt wins it this year. But, when CPT Tebow triumphantly returns to the field after his brush with football mortality, I'm sure he'll be the one. As if they don't talk enough about the guy now...imagine once he comes back on the field after the concussion.

Eric Berry...if no real candidates step up (aside from Colt) he has to be considered...
31 Tackles / 1 INT / 3.5 TFL No kick or punt returns

Excellent player, but defensive players need unreal stats on at least a good team coupled with return game impact. He won't receive consideration otherwise.

I hate this shit. Tebow goes down with a concussion and they have a bye week to get better. He'll step right back on the field and everybody will annoit him the second coming... of Tim Tebow. Go Colt. Keep Archie's record alive.

Based on what I saw, I'll be really surprised to see Tebow back on the field within the next four weeks. I hope he is, because he's the best player in CFB, but I doubt it.

I don't think you can ignore the abysmal opening game Wilson had against USC. 12-23, 74 yards, 6 sacks for -33 yards. Obviously he had a great game against Pitt, but the other opponents were Gardner-Webb and Murray State.

Good point, buy he'll get some attention because of the record he set for passes without an interception, even though only the passes from this year should matter for the Heisman.

We need the NCAA to start a DBB-like DPER rating for QBs, and a DYPC rating for RBs.

This year is maybe the least interesting race in a looooong time. Nobody is really standing out, no real exciting sleepers, the returning "Big 3" hasn't really been distinguishing themselves compared to last year. I mean, I hate to say it, but at this point it looks like the Golden Emu's race to lose. Tebow may get some consideration, but his numbers are down sharply and now has the concusiion issue. Bradford will not have played enough. McCoy's having a good year, but down a good bit from last year. I thought Jahvid Best was gonna make a run, but he and Cal have totally flopped. With nd playing close game after close game, Jimmah may continue to put up the big numbers. That plus the national TV exposure the domers provide might be pretty hard to beat. Of course, USC could snuff that all out. Hopefully they do. Just no real drama like past years...

Well, there's a new name in the race to keep Tebow from winning another one. Mark Ingram has a chance to be Alabama's first-ever winner.

Actual Heisman voting is 3-2-1, but this mock poll is 10-7-5-3-1.
