Those defensive rankings you posted just proved my point though. Stats mean nothing. OU's defense was rated lower than Texas' and LSU's yet they still managed to hold Florida to much less than LSU did (you still have not addressed this point). Those stats are meaningless when you are lining up to play the game. I'm not saying our defense was the best ever last year but it did lead the nation in sacks and anyone who watched Texas in 07 and 08 clearly saw the difference Muschamp made. He has us going in the right direction and that's all we can ask for at the moment.

no doubt Muschamp has y'all going the right direction, and I have no doubt he'll build a top tier defense in Austin.

our defense was horrid, no question.
but when your offense can't hold on to the ball for more than 2 plays, the other teams get enough opportunities to score on anyone.
we had the worst combination possible last year.
a bad defense and an offense with a bad habit of giving up the ball deep in their own territory.
OU was at least able to move the ball around a bit.

I'm not buying the Mississippi force-feeding at all

Houston Nutt is Notorious for choking when expectations are high.
Ole Piss is Notorious for choking when expectations are high (all both times expectations were ever high).

Now these 2 jokes are on the same sideline.
I'm predicting a complete meltdown in Oxford. It's gonna be fucking hilarious.

This is my preseason poll. It is an estimation of how strong each team is, not a prediction of how they will finish.

01. Florida
02. USC
03. Texas
04. Oklahoma
05. Ohio State
06. Alabama
07. LSU
08. Va Tech
09. Penn St
10. Oregon
11. Georgia
12. Oklahoma St
13. Ole Miss
14. Ga Tech
15. Oregon St
16. Iowa
17. TCU
18. Florida St
19. Boise St
20. Cincinnati
21. Utah
22. Nebraska
23. Illinois
24. BYU
25. Texas Tech

This is my prediction of how teams will finish the year, before the bowl games are played. It's a prediction, which is a different thing than what a preseason poll should be. This "prediction poll" factors in the teams' schedules, which games are on the road, and the probable poll placements based on the estimated W-L records at the end of the CCGs, but before the bowl games.

01. Florida
02. Texas
03. Ohio State
04. USC
05. Oklahoma
06. Penn St (easy schedule moves them up)
07. Alabama
08. Oregon
09. Va Tech
10. Oklahoma St
11. LSU
12. Georgia
13. TCU
14. Ole Miss
15. Ga Tech
16. Notre Dame (34th in my preseason poll, but 9-3 gets them here)
17. Boise St (just 1 loss to Oregon)
18. BYU (they get Utah at home)
19. Florida St
20. Oregon St
21. Nebraska (as the Big 12 North winner)
22. Pitt (they get Cincy at home)
23. Illinois
24. Cal
25. Iowa (losses in 4 tough Big Ten road games)

That's what I was thinking, but I'm not about to get into a political debate in the football forum.

Ohio State ahead of Penn State, no Notre Dame, highest rated mid major at or below 15.. looks like WIN to me.

Interesting comment, because it shows how people view polls differently.

I do a poll based on where I think they are now, not where I think they'll be later. (Or I rank Buffalo #25 to have fun with ND fans) BB73 did two polls. Neither way is "right" or "wrong", but the subjective nature of the process.

I've had people question me based on this team beat that team - or didn't beat that team - but we can argue all day.

Texas Tech > Texas > Oklahoma >Texas Tech - all had one loss.

Who was the best of the three? The system said Oklahoma and they did nothing to embarrass themselves but an argument could've been made for all of them.
