New approach moving forward:

1) Submit your picks if you're within the next 15 picks.

2) If you're online, go ahead and make your selection. Roger Goodell has the same password as all of your aliases, so use him to make the pick. Give your explanation for the pick with your coach alias.

***** Make your pick using the same formatting as the other picks.

With the ___ pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the ___ select...

Picture

Name, Position, School

_____ is on the clock

3) If you're not online, Roger will use your PM list to make your selection.

4) If there is no list and no coach online, you will have a 2 hour grace period, and then the pick will go to popular vote. The first to receive 3 votes is chosen.

Can we set hours to go along with this?

The coaching staff and I felt that with the change to a 3-4 scheme (under new Def Coordinator Dom Capers) that finding a NT to anchor the line was vital. We do have Ryan Pickett back and we have him as the starter but he is 30 and you never know how someone will play in a new scheme. B.J. provides needed size and aggression on the DL to help the transition to the 3-4. Couple that with his performance in the Senior Bowl and we are very excited to welcome this young man to the Packers organization.

When the tackle from Baylor went off the board ahead of us - we thought we had to go defense. Oher's inconsistency really spooked us and the only thing worse than having 1st roung QB bust is having a 1st round Left Tackle bust.

Our defense against the pass was 31st last year. Jenkins will probably compete for a starters job in camp and barring an injury or him suffering from a severe learning curve - he'll be playing huge minutes by Week 4.

Welcome to the Jaguars!

The only thing missing from Cable's analysis of selecting Jason Smith is the highway robbery angle. I marvel at his feet every single time I turn on the film. The Raiders are on the right track, if someone could just keep Al Davis in check.

Moving us right along to a Malcolm Jenkins, and boy, is this guy a straight shooter with upper level performance written all over him:

Malcolm Jenkins had a very tough decision to make a year ago, go to the NFL draft or go back to school for his senior year. He chose to go back to Ohio State and I think it was the right decision. He showed NFL scouts a lot more versatility, as a corner, safety and even on special teams.

  • The ball skills he brings to the table are tremendous. He does a great job catching the ball away from his frame and gets up field to make a big play for the defense. He had 11 career interceptions.
  • The second part I really like about his game is his toughness. He will press receivers at the line of scrimmage, and he'll also fly up and support the run.
  • Finally the recognition skills. I think this is THE most important physical trait that he brings. His understanding of the game, his ability to read the quarterbacks eyes, the early jumps he gets on the ball, and his ability to close on the ball when coming forward.
I watch his game and it reminds me so much of Antrel Rolle when he was coming out of Miami. We all know that Rolle had to make the transition to free safety, don't be surprised if Jenkins has to do the same.

Bottom line, though, he is the top defensive back in the 2009 draft, and this draft backed that up.
