2009 Big Twelve discussion (Dez Bryant)

...and Andre Ware. He has them in his Top 5.

Considering his history as a player, it's not surprising that he doesn't look at the defensive side of the ball when making picks.
But, surprisingly enough, he actually did pick Oklahoma to lose 4 games because of their inexperienced offensive line. Something that very few have taken into account. I actually agree with him there, and could see Oklahoma losing 3 or 4 games this season, before I could see Texas losing that many.

I agree with you on Oklahoma. Their O-Line, especially the left side, was really special last year. You don't lose that much talent without feeling it.

Texas plays AT Wyoming? How the heck did they get locked into that one? As long as you're scheduling a doormat, you might as well make it a home game and bank the ticket sales. Wyoming's stadium fits 33,000 people.

As another UT fan stated, Arkansas canceled on us at the last minute just to book their 10 year series with Texas A&M at the new Cowboys Stadium. And knowing Arkansas, they won't try to reschedule the made up game, even if its supposed to be played in Fayetteville.

The rumors were that Texas was in talk with Wisconsin but couldn't work anything out. (There's still a rumor that Texas/Minnesota are doing a home/home here in a few years.) Wyoming picked up the phone and agreed but it's a 2-fer-1 deal. All UT fans are pretty shocked that we are actually playing in Laramie and not in Denver.

Texas has UCLA and Mississippi lined up the next few years. Other OOC game deals that fell through include home/home games with Miami, Georgia, Auburn, Notre Dame, and Michigan. Mack Brown is well on record saying the Big 12 schedule is hard enough and can get you to the NC game on its own. He was against the Texas/Ohio State series but that was booked by MackII. It's a shame as Texas fans are growing more and more upset by the horrific schedules we have for home (and away) games. Alas, we aren't leaving the Big 12 anytime soon so we are used to it.

Texas A&M Aggies to start Jerrod Johnson at QB - ESPN
ESPN.com said:
Johnson to start at QB in Aggies' opener

Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman has settled on Jerrod Johnson as his starting quarterback for the Aggies' Sept. 5 opener against New Mexico.

Sherman's decision is not unexpected, considering he has repeatedly said that converted wide receiver Ryan Tannehill needed to decisively outplay Johnson to win the job.

"The way it all finished up, we have two No. 1s that I'm very excited about," Sherman told reporters after practice on Monday. "I believe in both of our quarterbacks and am equally happy with both. But the nod will go to Jerrod as our starter for the first ballgame and we'll go from there."

Contd...

Tulsa World: OSU's Dez Bryant ruled ineligible

Oops. No more Dez Bryant for Okie St.

Oklahoma State All-America wide receiver Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible because of a violation of an NCAA rule, according to a press release from the school.

OSU has begun the process of applying to the NCAA on his behalf for reinstatement, according to the school.

Bryant posted this message on his Facebook page: "This is why I'm suspended.....I went to Deion sanders house ....and the NCAA found out.....they ask me if I been to his house I told them no...I thought it was a violation...but it wasn't... so I told them I went to his house... I lied to ...them and I shouldn't have....and I'm not suspended for the rest of the season....I'm sorry osu!!"

Apparently the story of how MoC got suspended for 2003 didn't make it to Oklahoma St. Which is odd, considering the game broadcast of the 2004 Alamo Bowl between both of these OSUs.

To the NCAA, lying to them is much worse than accepting tens of thousands of dollars, getting caught, and paying it back.

This is dumb as hell. There are bogus INTs and celebration penalties being called all over the place, and nobody seems to know what a catch is anymore, especially when you zoom in and slow it down - and they're worried about a kid working out with Deion Sanders?

I don't think it'll hurt him in the draft one bit. There's enough on film from him to be taken high in the draft - even with Matt Millen not in control of a team.

Mike Williams sat out a full year though, and didn't he get fat or something? I think Bryant will be OK. I hope he can put it behind him like Cris Carter and have a great career in the League.

Agreed, he's a fine player.

The meeting with Sanders was not a violation. The problem is that he lied to the NCAA. Did Oklahoma State meet with Dez before he talked with the NCAA and discuss the situation? Did they go over what was a violation and what was not so he would not panic and lie to the NCAA investigator?

I don't know what the procedure is for when the NCAA talks to players. Does the NCAA contact the University first and give them notice that they want to talk to one of their players?
