2009 Big Twelve discussion (Dez Bryant)

So I wonder where Dez got the idea of not being truthful?

Okie State incorrectly listed him among the injured for the game against Grambling, before the story was broken about him lying to the NCAA about not meeting with Deion.

Personally, I'll be surprised if he gets reinstated in the next couple of weeks.

Violation kept Dez Bryant out vs. Grambling

STILLWATER ? Oklahoma State receiver Dez Bryant was held out of the Cowboys? Sept. 26 game against Grambling State because of his violation of NCAA Bylaw 10.1, not because of an injury as previously reported.

In OSU?s appeal to have the receiver reinstated, school officials said Bryant was held out after they found out about the violation.

Bryant was ruled ineligible on Oct. 7 for lying to NCAA officials about an interaction with former NFL player Deion Sanders.
It was previously believed that Bryant missed the Grambling State game due to a hamstring injury. In OSU?s postgame notes, it states: "Oklahoma State played Saturday?s game without three All-Americans, as WR Dez Bryant, RB Kendall Hunter and CB/KR Perrish Cox were all sidelined due to injuries.?

NCAA has ruled him out for the year, he'll likely enter the 2010 draft.

Oklahoma State WR Bryant to stay suspended for season

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant will remain suspended for the remainder of the football season for lying to NCAA investigators.

The NCAA ruled Tuesday that the junior All-American will not be eligible to play until September 2010, possibly bringing his college career to an end if he enters the NFL Draft.

Oklahoma State plans to appeal the decision, but athletic department spokesman Kevin Klintworth declined further comment. The university said it could receive a decision on the appeal as early as next week.

The university announced on Oct. 7 that Bryant was ineligible because he lied to the NCAA about his relationship with former NFL star Deion Sanders. He has sat out the last four games for the No. 13 Cowboys (6-1, 3-0 Big 12), who host No. 3 Texas on Saturday night in a game that will likely determine which team plays for the Big 12 championship.

The NCAA said in a news release that Bryant's penalty actually constituted "relief" from even more severe penalties for breaking the agency's rules for ethical conduct and preferential treatment. Bryant could have been forced to miss as few as six games or be permanently ineligible.

The NCAA said mitigating factors presented in Oklahoma State's case resulted in a lighter penalty for Bryant. The decision was based on whether Bryant "actively and deliberately concealed, omitted or provided inaccurate or false information" to the NCAA and whether he had multiple chances to provide accurate information but did not do so.

E-mail exchanges between an Oklahoma State compliance official and the NCAA indicate that there was concern that Bryant's meeting with Sanders was a way to connect him to an agent, something Sanders has denied.

Bryant claimed in a letter of apology to the NCAA that he jogged briefly with Sanders at a Texas athletics center without breaking a sweat and then went to Sanders' house for dinner, but did not eat.

The Big Twelve gets called out for being generally lousy by Fiu.

CFN.Whimsy

Where have you gone, Sam Bradford, a college football world turns its lonely eyes to you ? What the hell happened to the Big 12? The hot conference of last year with high-flying offenses, weekly drama on Saturday night national TV, and more stars and talent than the league offices could promote suddenly has become a god-awful mess of unwatchable schlock. Combine the games against Iowa State and Oklahoma, and Nebraska has put together two of the ugliest, weirder performances you?ll ever see. Missouri can?t beat Baylor at home, Kansas has decided to stop playing offense, Oklahoma apparently has decided that running the ball isn?t any fun, Texas Tech is only interesting now if Mike Leach is in front of a microphone, and Colorado, Iowa State, and Texas A&M are taking turns to see who can come up with the flakiest possible season. There?s Oklahoma State, who?s quietly putting together a really nice year, but lost all street cred when it turned out to be the only team that couldn?t put up close 500 yards of total offense on Houston in a home loss. Kansas State is a cute story, but your Big 12 North leader has a loss to Louisiana-Lafayette on the r?sum?. And then there?s Texas, who might turn out to be your 2009 national champion, but no one seems to care because the rest of the conference is full of tomato cans. The bowl season needs to be a big one. A really big one.

There's an interesting tidbit in this article, where it says that Bryant bought $185,000 in jewelry before he was suspended for the 2009 season.

Cowboys' Bryant sued for $850K+

DALLAS (AP) -- In the 18 months before Dez Bryant signed with the Dallas Cowboys, he apparently spent like a superstar.

He bought at least seven men's watches and two more for women. He paid
$65,500 for a diamond cross made of white gold and $60,000 for a custom charm. He ordered a set of dog tags made of white gold and diamonds, and all sorts of other rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces in various shades of gold, nearly all crammed with diamonds.

And finally, according to a pair of Texas lawsuits, Bryant ponied up for tickets to Cowboys and Mavericks playoff games, and to see LeBron James play. He also acquired some cash, at least $35,000.

Bryant got it all through a line of credit set up by his adviser, the lawsuits say, all with the understanding that he'd settle up once he signed his first pro contract.

But eight months after striking a deal that included $8.5 million guaranteed from the Cowboys, Bryant is facing two claims from people who say they are tired of waiting to get paid. A man from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and a New York company, are seeking a total of $861,350, plus interest and attorneys fees.

Bryant's attorney, state Sen. Royce West, declined comment on the specifics in the lawsuits, calling them "sheer allegations."

Bryant allegedly bought $185,500 of jewelry from Hunt before he was suspended in October 2009.

NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said Tuesday that in any case involving eligibility of a player after he's left school the questions are whether school knew "or did they have the processes and compliance and monitoring that they should have known."

"This is news to us," said Kevin Fite, Oklahoma State's head of athletic compliance. "We'll review it, consult with the NCAA and take whatever actions are deemed to be appropriate."
