Please don't justify the bullshit transitive theory on here.
It's a better conversation for the rose bowl thread itself, but yes, I agree that the transitive property generally doesn't work in college football. However, when you're looking at more than one example, with the results being so radically different (as opposed to making a long chain that proves that Ohio was better than the national champion in 2000,) I think it's a valid piece of the puzzle when comparing two teams. It's not the thing that makes me confident in a Big Ten loss there, it's just one of them.

I don't think it has any validity at all. The USC team that Oregon faced was a shell of the team that came to Columbus. Ohio State had FIVE turnovers against Purdue. Neither one is representative of anything other than the individual occurrences that they were.

I think all of these matchups are are pretty good; most are at least even, and Northwestern vs. Auburn isn't horrible. NU has been overachieving under Fitzgerald, and Auburn was a huge disappointment after a hot start. In the psychology and motivation department, you have to believe that the Wildcats will be a lot more up for that game.

5-2 is very doable, as is 2-5. lol I'm feeling optimistic that the high end of that range will happen, though.

Let's hope we're playing at 3-3...just like the basketball challenge.

Can't happen. MSU and Iowa both play a day or four after Ohio State.

Personally, I think NW can beat them.

Agreed. A lot of people said Mizzou would blow them out last year, too.

Why is everybody thinking Auburn is going to crush NU? I think Northwestern will be very competitive....

A couple people said it, mainly because all they've seen of Auburn is their outting against the Tide.

Fitzgerald is a helluva coach and his team's come prepared. He may not have a loaded roster of talent but what he does have are smart, discplined ballplayers that know their assignments and their scheme.

I'd look for it to be very competitive; hell, NU wouldn't shock me in the least if they won.

No it's not just that...I've watched a few Auburn games (a buddy of mine is a huge fan of theirs) and they have a very good running attack. It will be tough for Northwestern to stop Auburn from plunging Tate into the line and then running a sweep to McCaleb. Add in the very strong and fast Auburn defense and it is going to be hard for NW to pull it out.

Auburn is a very good team this year. Some more consistent QB play and they could have made some real noise.
