2009-2010 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (6 straight Big Ten Titles)

Penn St scored 48 points in one half.....WOW. 48 to 37 at the half. We may need to improve that defense a little....it seems that other coaches are starting to really score a lot of points against us. Look for solid adjustments at the half from coach Foster. Go Bucks

Furious comeback and the Buckeyes are down 63-62 at the 11 minute timeout. Sammy has been on fire, drew a charge and then made an old fashioned 3 pt play. Jantel found Shavelle wide open under the hoop from the double team then Sammy hit Sarah on the wing for a 3 on the break. OSU ball coming out. Brittany went down but has only a mild sprain and should be back soon.

PSU had 2 fast breaks off a block then a turnover. Jantel made a shot but Sammy then had her first turnover of this half on a miscommunication with JL. Trading some hoops, Maria hits a 3 and it's back to a 2 pt deficit 69-67. Timeout 7:30 or so, PSU ball coming back.

Doesnt sound good, way too many turnovers again. Between the audio on bigten.com and the radio all are adament that Foster needs to tame Prahalis' attitude. Sounds like Johnson is done after hitting some big shots, said knee extended on bench, taped and iced. Not good news for the Lady Buckeyes, she is crucial to the team and needs to be on the floor. Hopefully its minor and she can return on Thursday. Moeller is coming up big the last few minutes to give OSU a 1 pt lead, keep up the good work!

After PSU reclaimed the lead, Sammy hit Tayler on the break for 3, then Maria stole the ball and Sammy made a beautiful skip to the right corner late in the clock and Maria made another 3. The defense has been furious and Jantel has dominated the glass. 3:26 to go 76-71 Buckeyes. Jantel with a steal.

I think Foster brought Sammy to Columbus for her attitude.

Buckeyes win 86-73. Monster second half and everyone chipped in.

Everybody agrees she was recruited to bring in 'attitude', but everybody also agrees that attitude needs to be controlled. That's called 'constructive criticism'. That's not a negative comment, but we're very lucky the technical didn't come back to haunt the outcome. She played an outstanding game today by the way!

Switching to man to man was a huge key as it controlled Alex Bentley who went off for 16 in the first half. It also helped the TO problem by giving OSU more transition opportunities and limiting PSUs chance to set up their very pesky zone which had caused most of the turnovers (20 at half! but only 25 for the game). I also think the "let them kill each other" attitude of the refs hurt alot in the first half - only 1 free throw for OSU and it wasn't exactly a tea dance. Jantel doesn't get near the respect from the whistles that she deserves. For that matter, Sammy's second half technical was provoked by 3 or 4 clear bumps and holds in the first half and perhaps the most ridiculous charge call I have ever seen.

Here's some stats:
Sammy 26 pts on 7-10, including 5-6 from 3, 7-7 from the line, 4 reb, 12 assists, 9 turnovers (worst of the year) and 2 steals
Jantel 18 pts on 7-13 and 4-4 FTs- she should have had at least 8, 8 reb 4 assists 4 turnovers a block and a steal
Brittany 12 on 4-6 from 3 1 reb 1 assist 2 tos - let's hope she's ready for Purdue
Maria 10 huge points on 3-4 from 3 2 reb a steal and a to
Tayler 9 on 3-4 from 3 assist steal and 2 tos
Sarah 6, 4 boards 2 asists a steal and 4 tos
Andrea 3 pts 8 rebs 3 blocks 2 steals and a to
Shavelle 2 pts 2 assists a reb a steal and 2 tos plus terrorizing on ball defense
Alison played well too in limited minutes with 2 boards

Not everyone agrees with you. The technical may have actually been a little of the spark they needed - OSU was always seen as a little too "nice" by many in WCBB in years past.

You constantly bring up constructive criticism for Sammy, explicitly or by innuendo (where were all those "team play" comments directed?), which is certainly your right, and I don't always disagree with your points - but in the midst of the emotion of the game it definitely comes across to me as negative, a little petulant and not at all constructively meant.

She is a sophomore, she's definitely not perfect but she will continue to figure it out - she's been a much better player this year than last and I think you'll continue to see some growth. If you want her to play "aw shucks" or "three yards and a cloud of dust" as applied to the basketball court, I think you will be disappointed and I'm sure Foster would be mis-using her gifts.

It's not a one- two- or three- player show - in wins, losses or ever, and I commend the team for fighting hard today to get a big road win.
