2009-2010 Lady Buckeyes Basketball (6 straight Big Ten Titles)

Regardless of the two losses this week, the frustration of watching them play poorly and the clear step back they have taken, over the course of the season the Buckeyes have put themselves in a group of teams including ND, Tenn, Neb, Duke, Georgia, Baylor, TAMU, Tex, LSU and maybe a very few others that have a shot at the last 2 FF spots. UConn is so much better than anyone else it would take a truly monumental upset for them not to be there and #2 Stanford has almost as much separation over the #3 of the week as UConn has over them.

If you're ranked from 3-6 you get the #1 or 2 seed in the regionals without UConn and Stanford; OSU has been as high as 3 and are currently 6. They are clearly at the lower end of that second tier group now and will probably end up (barring any further disaster) with a 3 or 4 seed and an appointment to see UConn in Dayton.

I don't take the position that they were really no good all along - never as good as you look when you win or as bad as you look when you lose is a pretty good motto as far as I'm concerned - but they're probably going to be down around 11-14 in the polls next week. They will need real help to get back to that key #3-6 zone and this whole discussion is moot if they can't get themselves straightened out - which is why the only thing that matters now is the next game, the next possession, trust, consistency and aggressiveness. All those things are internal and are the only things they can control.

I thought (and obviously still do think) that the Final Four this year was a longshot, but I do think that if they can right the ship - and I'm confident they can - they still have a legit shot at the Elite 8.

My wife and I took friends to the game today, spent the first half behind the bench, moved up above for the second half. Still ugly. Came home, read comments on a few websites, listened to Foster's postgame audio, same old stuff. Continues to blame everybody for not stepping up to help 'the two', but fact is they didn't produce in the second half at all either. Again the team started off fairly strong, made early shots, then just like Purdue, quit passing, starting forcing quick shots, tried to turn it in to a 2 person game, just not going to work in this conference. Prahalis said in the postgame that nobody was moving; she had quit passing anyway at that point except inside to Lavender, who was being smothered by 2-3 Indiana players on every possession. Nothing was passed back out, ball movement stopped. To put Johnson in the last 18 seconds of the game did nothing but telegraph to Indiana what the plan was, and again, without somebody setting screens it wasn't going to work anyway. Perhaps if done sooner, who knows, but it was a bit much expecting a cold player off the bench to fix all the mess.

Strange day in the Big 10! Hopefully the girls will regroup, remember how amazing they worked together last week against Minnesota, and get back to business. They need to come up with a plan to defend 3 pt shooters before Iowa comes to town on Thursday.

New day, good time to forget (but learn from) Indiana, remember how amazing they were just a few days ago against Minnesota at home, bring that passion and intensity to every game whether home or on the road. Take care of business one game at a time and good things can happen.:osu:

36-33 Iowa 3+ to go. The Hawkeyes have been on absolute fire from 3 (7-10) and OSu has gone man on a few possessions to slow that down. Alison Jackson is having her best game of the season and has been a big lift off the bench. Shavelle's on the bench with 2 fouls, very balanced scoring: Jantel 7, Sammy and Sarah 6, Brittany 5, Alison 5, 3 others have scored.

44-43 Iowa at the half. Sammy gave OSU its first lead on 2 FTs at 38-37 but Iowa scored the next 7. Jantel had a 3 pt play and Alison hit 2 FTs to get it where it is now.

OSU has 12 pts off Iowa turnovers, but Iowa has collapsed all over Jantel, though she has 10 at the half the rebounds are even and Jantel has only 2. Sammy has 11 pts., 4 assists and 3 TOs, Alison has 7 an assist and a steal, Sarah has 6 on 2 3pters and a pair of assists.

There are some good signs for the second half: Iowa has some foul trouble, their guards have been pressured all game and (hopefully) will wear down a little - they have turned it over some and I don't think they can rely as heavily on the 3 (8-12) as they have so far.

OSU is moving the ball but their reversals are mostly swings on the perimeter and few attempts have been made to drive and kick for a better shot. They need to find some consistent offensive rebounding as well.

I like Iowa's team - they've had injuries which helps account for their lackluster record but Alexander is probably my favorite non-Buckeye B10 player, Wahlin is damn good and the frosh - Printy and Johnson are both very good.

Went down to the game last night only to realize we forgot our tickets. :ohwell: At least the BTN finally had us on.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a player foul out with 10 minutes left. It was almost like she wanted to sit - Machado really forced the refs to call it when she tripped Shultze in the backcourt.

After the first half, I really didn't think Iowa could hold their pace of shooting. To their credit, they never let up. Interesting strategy to go all guards against us. Hopefully we find a way to adapt in case other teams start trying that against us.

The five guards was mostly a strategy of necessity rather than choice, I think. I like Iowa's guards, too - Alexanderr in particular but Wahlin and Printy are fine players. I would suppose that in a case of an opponents' smaller, quicker lineup and hot shooting Foster would have to go with Little, Stokes and maybe Jackson more than usual and try to exploit the mismatch for Jantel at the other end.

I truly hope that coach foster DOES NOT start Hill, she has not given up anything. He has to see that we need a change. Last game that zone defense was killing us.

All that talent and he doesn't know how to rotate the players Wow!!!

GO LADY BUCKS!!!

She is a Freshman and we have a three game lead in the conference. A good coach doesn't coach a team to be what it is but to become what it can be.

Hill has been struggling as of late, has hindered the team more than helped by her lack of playing defense, but I don't feel replacing her in the starting lineup is the answer. I feel she needs pushed harder, encouraged to turn it up on both ends of the court, and rotated in and out with players like Little and Stokes. We all need to remember this particular lineup will all return next season, she is the weak link, but with proper coaching and continued work can be very solid.

Good luck ladies today in Penn State. We have the offensive players to take care of their business; teamwork and aggressive play on defense will secure the win today!
