I hate to put a damper on the Grammy talk, but I understand The Dead Schembechlers disbanded out of respect for Bo's passing.

Temporarily.

The group played the largest Hate Michigan Rally in history on November 17th, selling out the Newport Music Hall with over 2000 people attending. It was an emotionally charged evening with the shocking news of the death of the band's namesake Bo Schembechler coming earlier in the day. The band announced at a press conference prior to the show that they would drop the current band name out of respect to Bo and the Schembechler family if they continued in the future. They also announced all band profits from the show including those of opening acts Watershed and B.A. Baracus would be donated to a charity of the Schembechler family's choosing, eventually raising over six thousand dollars for The Bo Schembechler: Heart of A Champion Fund.

On New Year's Day 2007, they announced that their new name would be The Bastard Sons of Woody and that they are direct genetic descendents of Woody Hayes himself. Apparently the group members were the product of radical scientific experimentation with DNA manipulation, cell altercation and gene splicing transmogrification. They were each born in a test tube as part of a renegade off campus OSU lab experiment.
However, the hopes of their fans were dashed soon after. The Bucks loss in the National Championship pushed Bo Biafra over the edge and his mental powers began to become unfocused. He claimed that Woody blamed them for the loss and that the band was now cursed.

All of the press and notoriety would be of no avail to their ravenous fans though as 2007 would be the first year without a performance or a rally since the group first began in 1990. Huge dollar amounts were thrown at them to no avail. Doubts loom that the band will ever play again.

Then on September 10th 2008 the band dropped the bombshell that they would reform as the Dead Schembechlers with a new record and multiple Hate Michigan Rally appearances. Shockingly, the first salvo fired by the rejuvenated group was not at Michigan but at USC with their single "USC Don't Mean Nuthin' to Me" and its B side "U S(uck) C(ock). As a thank you to fans the group made the tunes available for free download on their MySpace on USC game day. These songs and others would be inculded on their new EP "Rodriguez to Ruin" which is slated for a November 2008 release. Other titles on the record will include "O-H-I-O," "Rodriguez is A Weasel," "I'm So Bored with the SEC," "You Lost to Appalachian State" and "Rich Rodriguez Can Suck My Dick."

I just got the Christmas decorations up (for the most part) and I'm enjoying a Grey Goose and Cranberry as I watch a very competitive game between Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Paul Johnson is the coach at Georgia Tech and they are running the triple option (a version of it anyway) and it struck me.

First year coach.

New offense.

8-3 record and just took the lead over their ranked arch rival UGA (GT is also ranked).

So it can be done, right? Am I missing something?

I thought there had to be a mass exodus of players (as happens when a new coach comes in, right?) and a very painful transition.

Something must be wrong with Paul Johnson as he doesn't know how to be a first year coach and obviously knows nothing about transitioning a team into a new offensive system.
Not to mention GT is on probation..

Paul Johnson has to be COY this year... but to be fair:

Veteran OL for Georgia Tech compared to basically one player (Schilling) who had substantial playing time for UM's OL.. But tell me this, would they be able to run that offense as well as they do with Steven Threet or Nick Sheridan at QB instead of Nesbitt?

Not making any excuses for UM, just saying you gotta look at the whole picture..

True, but would Johnson have adapted his offense more than Rod did? I was waiting all year for Rod to find one of his athletes, teach him some basic reads, and roll with it. The zone read option doesn't work very well when the defense doesn't have to read anything...

I'm guessing thats what he tried to do when he signed Feagin, but all the reports out of all the practices said he was overwhelmed at QB and he suffered from arm fatigue so he was taken out of the QB competition. Add in the fact he was hard pressed to beat out Sheridan for 2nd team and you got yourself a problem.

Steven Threet made some decent throws this year (fade to Hemmingway in game one, couple wheel routes), but he also had alot of stupid "WTF" passes that couldn't hit the side of the barn. He had alot of guts and he had the arm strength, but his elbow just wouldn't cooperate with him, and Sheridan... is Sheridan. He came to Michigan to become a coach, not start in the Greatest Rivalry in all of sports. So with that being said what kind of offense can you make to work for them? Run Run Run Punt? I'm guessing RR wanted to install the basic principles of his offense since there wasn't an offense that would fit the QBs he had, and get the foundation established for the future when he did have a QB that could fit his system.

Chris - to be fair though, if the 5th-yr Seniors stay, and if Boren does not exit Stage Left then your O-line issues are significantly less problematic.

Boren= big loss no matter how you put it. Our worst position this year: LG where we had to convert a DT to play there. But for the other 5th year seniors... eh. Alex Mitchell played against Florida at 380 pounds and Lloyd Carr had to coax him back onto the team. Ciulla played a little last year, and he would have been a small improvement over what we had this year, but it wouldn't have been on the level of Georgia Tech's O-Line. For Georgia Tech, Gardner was a (including this year) 4 year starter, Voss was a 2.5 year starter, and Howard was a 2 year starter. That's not exactly world beater status (They did have a converted TE at OT and a true freshman at Center) right there, but it's helluva lot more then Michigan. Schilling with one year of experience, and then a blank slate of a few games here and there for everybody else on the UM O-Line.

UCF Rivals

4-star ATH/CB Josh Robinson chooses UCF over Mich.

Scout $

CB Josh Hunter, UNC verbal, visiting UM in December. UNC has a big lead, but he's looking.

About Josh Robinson, the second he started talking about weather being a factor I gave up. Good pickup for UCF.

of course his offer lists vary according to each service...

being from Florida...of course ESPN's recruiting people like Williams more than their rivals and scout counterparts...rated the No. 53 WR in the nation...

pretty decent sized WR at 6-2, 205 lbs...so maybe RR is wanting him to play tight end or something?
