That's the family atmosphere we all know and love.
"We're sorry, Steven. That was mean of us. But please understand, it hurts us when you make sloppy throws into the dirt. It hurts all of us, Steven."

You know what? It's harsh. It's even condescending. You know what else? If Threet is the starting quarterback on November 22, he's not walking into a family atmosphere in front of 100,000 well-wishers.

Someone better go tell JT the only way to prepare kids to play on the road in hostile environments is to belittle and curse them.

So belittling him and humiliating him is the way to coach him? Not saying it doesn't have its place, but from the sound of things Threet or Sheridan (or both) are all you have. His confidence is the last thing you should be attacking. Oh, but you guys have Feagin ("the poor man's Pryor with a better arm"). He's so great he's been eliminated from the competition after a week.

EDIT Or was it Newsome who is the poor man's Pryor? Either way, neither one of them is in the same galaxy as Pryor.

so logically, belittling him is the only other way to go. Michigan's new colors are black and white now, too? :p

Can't hurt :)

However, we do have to remember that not everyone is wired the same way. Tressel's more laid-back, relaxed method works for him, and Rodriguez's angrier, more intense method works for him. So, to expect every coach to use the same motivational methods is a bit far-fetched, no?

Obviously it is ridiculous to expect every coach to have the same approach to coaching, however, it is not ridiculous to expect college coaches, teaching teenagers, to not belittle their players and curse like sailors in the process. I refer you to Pat White and his comments regarding the change in coaching style between DickRod and Stewart, Ohio State fans aren't just making this up.

With Appleton Commtting to Illinois and Emilien dropping them Scum is starting to be eliminated from alot of recruits list's lately. I wonder how many top targets still are considering them:biggrin:

To be honest, few UM fans thought that UM had a shot with either. Appleton was Illinois, OSU, or LSU for the duration of his recruitment, and Emilien went from a presumed Buckeye lock to a strong candidate to stay down South.

To answer your question, I am enlisting the help of MGoBlog's recruiting board, found here.

2009 Michigan Football Recruiting Board | mgoblog

And only listing players I think there's a shot at. So yes, while say, Jamaal Berry lists us in his top 5 or 10 or whatever it is, I consider him a lock for Ohio State. So really, I don't there's a shot there.

Tate Forcier, Eugene Smith (likely going to be dropped soon), Shaq Evans, Dion Sims, Cam Gordon, Todd Thomas (real offer?), Marcus Hall but not really, Chris Freeman, Brennan Williams, Chris Bonds, Craig Roh, Anthony LaLota, DeDe Lattimore, Jelani Jenkins (Maybe?, he seems very open, and came to UM for a workout with Barwis), Darius Winston, Josh Robinson, Mywan Jackson, Angelo Hadley, Jonathan Scott, Dennis Thames, and Anthony Fera.

I know they're not making it up. And your points in the differences between Rodriguez and Stewart are valid. Then again, there is something to be said between the difference in coaching ability as well. Stewart, whom by all accounts is just a super duper guy, went something like 9-25 at 1-AA. Rodriguez's coaching track record, while not the same as say Jim Tressel or Pete Carroll, is still pretty good. So do you prefer to go 6-6 with Super Nice Guy or maybe hurt a few feelings and win? Winning seems to make everyone feel better.

Look, I'm not saying Rodriguez is a saint, far from it. Pete Carroll allegedly freaks on players, seems to be working out for him. I'm going to give Rodriguez time.

I dunno about that...Threet might have a lot of fans in the stadium by the end of the game on Nov 22nd. Give the kid some slack, he just might become the most loved UM QB in Ohio history.

I think it's safe to say that Chad Henne has that spot locked down.

Threet may not even be the starter. MGoBlog is saying Nick Sheridan looks like he has the advantage in the QB race.

Oh, and Sheridan is now on scholarship.

You're missing the point, it's not about how good of a coach they are, it's about being a part of one of the most important periods in the players lives, a period where they form lasting friendships and are shaped into the men they are going to become for the rest of their lives. It's about more than wins and losses, over half of the players won't go on to play another snap of football for the rest of their lives after college. Coaches like Tressel, Hayes, Schembechler and Carr understood that being a college coach was more than just wins and losses, DickRod clearly does not, and you seem to be giving him a pass for that as long as he wins.

So you will have a problem with him belittling and insulting his players if he doesn't win games?

You're really going to tell me Tressel, Hayes, Schembechler, Carr et al have never, ever belittled players?
