2008 tOSU Spring Game (4/19) & Practice Discussion

Boeckman was so locked in on Hartline that even the announcers mentioned it just before the his second pick (Homan diving int). He threw once to Stoneburner for a first down, and maybe to one other WR, but it sure seemed like every single pass was going to Hartline. Henton got away with a boneheaded pass right to a DB (Lane?) who dropped a sure int, but after that he did a pretty good job of escaping the rush and getting rid of the ball to avoid big losses and even hit a 20 yard or so pass while on the run...he did miss a wide-open Nicol in the end zone during the long scramble in which he broke Solomon Thomas' tackle in the backfield, so he'll hear about that during film review. The QB I was most impressed with was Bauserman. I dare to say that he reminded me a little of a Craig Krenzel with a much stronger arm. He seems to be a natural leader and his "real life experience" of playing pro ball will help him immensely in game time situations.

Troy Smith looked awesome in his last spring game. TB looked a lot like he did the last few games of the season. I have as much confidence in him as i did then. No doubt, he's the starter and i really hope he shows himself more poised and confident under pressure.

6.) There may be some reason for believing that Todd will never have to face a defense as good as the one he faced in spring practice.

True but...
By the end of the season, some MAC schools defense's should be as good as our split squad spring game Ds.

Henton needs to work on his throwing motion, which is easier said than done. He reminded me too much of Schoenhoft out there. Quite a few knuckleballs.

What I thought was worth noting was that TB went to Hartline seemingly 90% of the time.

I wonder what that means in terms of trusting receivers or receivers' ability to get open.

I noticed that. I think it's good he is hitting his first read if they are open, but every now and then he needs to look off the defenders at the guy he has been going to (Hartline) and go elsewhere with the ball. I thought Bauserman did the best job with his reads and getting the ball to the open man (don't interpret this as me calling for Bauserman as the starter ).

They shortened summer and winter quarters slightly to avoid commencement on Labor Day and Easter Sunday. So spring practice will start a week earlier.

Huh? Easter can fall in March or April. How do you avoid that? OSU used to be just about the last school to start the academic year, usually the last week of September... God, I used to get SO impatient... and Spring finals were the second week of June. Have they moved the start day up?

You better not or Taosman might go crazy.

That was more of a great play by Coleman, than a poor job by Boeckman.

Boeckman is the same as he was last year. Hangs on to the ball, far to long. The WR is open and he waits to throw the ball. This allows the DB to make up the yards. Boeckman has not progressed as a QB and he will be our weakness this year. He also has serious tunnel vision. Only has eyes for certain WRs. In this game it was Hartline, with no Robo. Completely stared hartline down every time.

Dont worry everyone. The great Tim Tebow had 2 picks in his SG as well!!

Tebow is not a passer. If TB could run like Tebow I wouldn't be worried as much. Atthis point I would give serious consideration to both of the other QBs . Boeckman just doesn't have it
