2008 Rivals/Scout/etc. National & Regional Rankings

Steve, I just hope you take a really close look at both guys this year and if you still believe that Sanders is better then OK, but Adams is an absolute stud and I think he deserves a second look from you.

I mean we wouldn't argue so vigorously for Adams if we didn't TRULY believe that he was being slighted.

I appreciate your passion, I really do. Nobody I know is saying that Adams isn't a stud!

They both are!

What I'm wondering is, if he won't tell us why he has Sanders ranked higher (other than the crappy reasons he gave us) here, then where would he be willing to defend his rankings?

My home turf. Where I might not get attacked for believing that Ohio kids aren't to be judged solely by whether or not they have received an offer from Ohio State.

I love Jim Tressel and respect the job he's done at Ohio State. But, there are a million reasons why kids may not get an offer from Ohio State.

I shouldn't have said that, someone is going to ask me to name the million reasons and when I can't name a million the "OWNED" graphic will reappear!

Isn't that your job? To make a judgment and then defend it?

Well, my job is over at Ohio Varsity.

Again, I simply wanted to shed some facts on the rankings process since someone believed that my Notre Dame bias had some effect on the rankings. That's all.

Well Steve, you haven't done very well so far.

Feel free to continue defending yourself and your rankings. You are certainly entitled to do that on this forum.

However, if you continue to insult this site, our userbase, or tOSU, you won't be here long.

Unlike you, we don't get paid to take garbage..grow some thicker skin or find a job that does not involve public opinion.

As far as evaluating talent, I'd love to here your credentials in football....since you are calling people out, let's hear your resume'

OSUGRAD21...I'm not insulting anyone...I try to clear up some information regarding the rankings and now I'm being ambushed from every corner.

You tell me to grow thicker skin one sentence after telling me not to insult the userbase? Seriously?

I'm not calling anybody out...I think it's the other way around. I don't care enough to worry about being banned from here. I just wanted to explain that my Notre Dame bias had nothing to do with the rankings.

Sheesh....

Another knock against Sanders was his horrible testing down in San Antonio in 1/07. Do you take any camp or combine performances into your rankings?

I'd bet my life savings that if you handled this differently, the conversation would have gone on a much more pleasant path.

Absolutely. Aren't you being paid for your opinions? Certainly criticism is expected there. If we were to visit Rivals and bash you, we would be banned...You came here looking for an issue...you found it. Just as you would defend your site for your userbase, I will certainly do the same here. You are compensated for the harrassment you may take...we are not. Therefore, my trigger can be much quicker than yours eh?

Really? I can go back and quote you asking for users to break down the film...don't bother claiming there was not a condescending meaning in that.

I'm still waiting for your credentials to evaluate talent...however, if you don't care enough, why are you still here defending yourself?

This is my big question: Why do you feel there is such a disparity between Adams' & Sanders' offers, if they are so equal in rivals' eyes?

I'm not sure I see that disparity. First, the trouble is that on both Rivals and Scout you only see a partial list of offers--the top teams according to that prospect. So, an accurate comparison isn't really possible.

Now, you can take a look and see that Ohio State and Notre Dame have offered Adams, but haven't offered Sanders. Is that enough to give Adams the nod over Sanders? Sure, if all we look at is an offer list.

Who offered Ben Roethlisberger?

How many players get offers from the OSU's, ND's, Michigan's that turn out to be busts? Plenty...I know more of them from ND simply because I've followed them longer. Anyone remember Mike McNair? The guy was all-this and all-that (before Rivals/Scout were giving 5-stars), yet he busted at ND.

Again, I'm certainly not taking anything away from Adams...the guy has a ton of potential; he's massive and he's a great kid. I'm glad he'll be wearing the scarlet and gray (and he's certainly holding his own recruiting for the Buckeyes).

So we're fond of the florida game? :roll2:

"How about Florida for one? I think they recently played Ohio State...how did that turn out?"
I try to clear up some information regarding the rankings and now I'm being ambushed from every corner.
You got ambushed b/c you offered up very weak arguments at first, which were largely not your own opinions. When people called out your arguments you got defensive. Not until much later did you offer up actual reasons why YOU thought Sanders was on Adams' level, which I thanked you for.
I'm not calling anybody out...I think it's the other way around.
Statements like these beg to differ (besides the frequent - woe is me, everyone is against me - type of posts... which aren't constructive in the least).
I'm happy to defend my rankings, just not here...where it's like selling a box of hamburgers at a PITA convention.

Not really. I mean, we're evaluating football players.

7-on-7's, camp performances, those are great to identify athleticism. Me, I like to watch football games to see how a player performs--in the play and away from the ball.

Who offered Ben Roethlisberger?
Nobody, b/c Findlay's HC favored his precious son through graduation... leaving Big Ben with very little film until his senior year. How in the world is that relevant to these two, who have been well-tracked OT prospects for years?

Recently, we did a comparison of the number of offensive linemen put into the NFL by Miami and Ohio State...while the total number was pretty close (can't remember the exact figure) the disparity in where those players were drafted was pretty high.

Miami had many more first day picks, especially at tackle, than Ohio State.

Sanders' athleticism is one of his best attributes. Questions about his strength and nastiness on the other hand, are why many feel he is a good but not great OT prospect.
