Makes you wonder how many in staters we passed up will be great at the college level. I am a great believer in keeping them home. I hate seeing Woodson types go north because we didn't have room. But we trust in Tress !

Funny enough, I think Tressel has missed on more in-staters this year since a year like 2003. The great thing is that it hasn't really mattered with by far the best year for the OOS recruits.

I don't think he "missed" on some of the bigger names who committed elsewhere:

McCarthy: Irish Catholic kid going to an Catholic high school selects Notre Dame, where his older brother plays...who'd thunk it?
Zordich: Penn State legacy
Beachum: Wasn't seen as worthy of an offer

These are just a couple I can think of off the top of my head...

Koger is really the only kid that I would call a miss. The kids going to ND affect Michigan more than us considering they play meshitagain every year. That Koger kid is gonna play defense at Michigan if their staff has half a brain...I know that Tress would.

We recruited him for the TE position...

I'll agree with you that "missed" might not be the right terminology. I'm only talking about the guys who did have OSU offers - McCarthy, Rudolph, Zordich, Koger, & Woods. I think that is actually more than the past few years, but this year it's easy to forget with all of the great OOS players on board.

I was speaking of "missing' out on players from Ohio that don't get to come here because of no offer because of the players we did take (OO state).
Granted I know that JT takes the players he thinks fits the best but I still wonder. Just a curiousity really.

It has the potential to end up with more OOS kids than Ohio kids.

Quite possible, with us being in good shape with Pryor, Sabino, Jenkins, Mobley, etc. It all depends on how many ships we'll have to give in the end.

I wonder if any Ohio State recruiting class has ever had more OOS commits than Ohio commits...

Now that you mention it, that was the 2006 class. As for "bread and butter", most of our biggest stars--at least on defense, which right now is our bread and butter--are OOS kids: Laurinaitis, Gholston, Jenkins, Russell.
