You forgot one OOS guy that I am really excited about that is supposedly a big lean...

Willie Mobley(#14/#17 DT/ Strongside DE in the country per Scout/Rivals and #3 player in MN per Rivals)

Also Lamaar Thomas from MD.

Many, if not most, of us expect Lauriniatis, Jenkins, and Gholston to declare after this year which give us 20 ships. That would mean 6-8 OOS commits to fit in our 60-40 to 70/30 window. I'm sure we'd gladly take an OOS foursome of Pryor, Jenkins, Mobley, and Thomas...

OK, not that I don't have a life or anything -

But I was thinking about how small last years class was and how different this one seemed. I did the math and last year the mean weight was about 195. This year it is 245.

And it would stay 245 if we finished with the above mentioned Pryor, Jenkins, Mobley, Thomas - and let's not forget Scott.

Nice power complement to a speed class.

Good points above by Oh8ch. Something that I've noticed about JT and recruiting is how back to back classes seem to really fit together. The individual class signed doesn't overwhelm the observers (gurus, fans, etc), but when you put all of the pieces together over time, solid units emerge. Several years ago was the year of the linebacker, last year was the year of the DB and RB, this year is the O-line and receivers. Sprinkle in a difference maker at whatever other position, and there seems to be a nice flow of talent. Factor in the versatility of many Buckeye signees, and you have a lot of options on where to slot players. And, before anyone jumps on one of my above statements, this year's class rates as overwhelming, at least in my opinion. Every commit has an impressive offer sheet. For me, that speaks volumes. If the top guns of college football are in the hunt for a player, that means more to me, than how many "stars" he was awarded.

ESPN - Recruiting coast-to-coast: Ohio offense - Insider

Ohio State, 11 commits

To this point, we have been very impressed by the Buckeyes' efforts in the early going. In fact, we feel this class will likely surpass the quality 2006 group that was brought in. With 11 commitments so far and six of them in the ESPN 150, this class is off to a great start with just over 4 months to go until signing day. Needs are being met with quality players across the board, especially at offensive tackle with Michael Brewster (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater), J.B. Shugarts (Spring, Texas/Klein) and Mike Adams (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman). Also, the Buckeyes are thin at outside linebacker, and this is why DeVoe Torrence (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) needs to stay on defense alongside ILB Andrew Sweat (Washington, Pa/Trinity) and OLB Nathan Williams (Washington-Couthouse, Ohio/Miami Trace). We still think they need a top flight quarterback, though.

How can ESPN say we're thin at OLB, are they nuts? Isn't that one of our deepest positions!?!? And honestly I stopped really paying attention to a lot the rankings for the recruiting classes since they are so biased by skills positions. The sites don't take into effect the need of the team, instead a RB that runs a 4.4 40, even though the team already 4 other RBs! I think tOsu's recruiting class is comparable to any of the teams in the top 10, but we won't get the recognition because the bulk of our class is O-lineman(which is the backbone of any good team). For example FSU has had top ten recruiting classes for the past 5 years and got embarassed for a 2nd year in a row to a Wake Forest school who mostly gets 3star guys. But honestly who cares about recognition and all of that when we're #1 in the country!!!

Wow...ESPN's recruiting services are the biggest joke I have ever seen. I can't believe they haven't done their homework on the depth at OLB...why even say something like that if you have no clue what your saying?

I'm fairly sure I've heard in the past that a good mixture of recruits is a 60/40 to 70/30 ratio of Ohio to non-Ohio kids. Well, we have that 60/40 ratio right now, with six commits from Ohio and four from out of state. Also, those four out of state commits are from four different states (Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Illinois), and they are the cream of the crop in their home states:

Brewster (#1 OT in the country and #2 player in Florida per Rivals)
Goebel (#5 DT in the country and #2 player in Illinois)
Shugarts (#6 OT in the country per Scout)
Sweat (#5/#7 MLB in the country per Scout/Rivals and #7 player in PA per Rivals)

With 7 more ships available, 2-3 OOS kids would fit the ratio. The chances for Jenkins are looking pretty good (#1 player in WV per Rivals and #2 OG in the country per Scout). Getting him and Pryor would make our class flat out sick...

Thomas' commit last week puts us at 7 Ohio and 5 OOS commits so far (58/42 ratio).

If we add Jenkins, Pryor, Mobley, Scruggs, Scott, Sabino, and Howard that would make it more from OOS, adding Rowell to the class above would make it even...
Makes you wonder how many in staters we passed up will be great at the college level. I am a great believer in keeping them home. I hate seeing Woodson types go north because we didn't have room. But we trust in Tress !
