I definitely agree with that. I originally though Johnny Adams was going to get one, but the momentum appears to be with Woods at the moment. It will be a critical camp for those two because I don't see too many more speed offers going out, especially in-state.

I also think it will be important for any fullbacks, since we appear to be open to taking one(which surprises me, but I'm not a coach).

Zordich will end as a fullback, IMO.

because...

Look, just because we are in on Hale and Sweat doesn't mean that Zordich will be brought in as a fullback. If memory serves me correct, some relegated AJ Hawk to a fullback when he came in with D'Andrea, Carpenter, Kudla and White. And don't forget, everyone thought that Beachum's offer was in the mail, but it was Zordich that got the offer. If OSU is passing up Beachum for a fullback, then he must be a heck of a fullback. Not predicting Zordich will be a stud at LBer but relegating great high school LBers at this stage is simply pointless.

Zordich is being brought in at LB and will be given his shot. If I'm not mistaken he was told if it doesn't work out FB may be in his future and he was okay with that.

Bill Greene's recruiting feature "Take it to the Bank"...brings up a good point...at this point last year several kids who ended up commiting to OSU didn't have offers yet...including Devon Torrence, who was on everyone's short list.

True, but a lot of that might have had to do w/ grades-Jermale Hines, or a lack of "no doubt, early offer" talent at a given position-Sanzenbacher and Washington-the coaches wanted a final evaluation in camp instead of offering in March, like w/ Posey and Stoneburner. Also, w/ the 3 OL in the country as commits, Tressel doesn't have to "Plan B" this year, either.
Either way, I don't expect a ton of camp offers-perhaps Woods and Beachum, maybe an interior lineman or two who blow up.

Remaining needs for 2008

As of the time of this post (a few days after Sweat's commitment), we have nine commits: Adams, Brewster, Buchanan, Posey, Shugarts, Stoneburner, Sweat, Torrence, and Williams. This gives us (at their "main positions") three OL, one LB, one RB, one DE, one TE, one WR, and one K (although several of these guys could play other positions). With 14 slots available (according to our calculations), we have five more ships to give. So, the question is where are our biggest needs to be addressed by these five? Let's take a look at our current scholarship status after the 2007 season, postition-by-postion:

OFFENSE:

QB: Three. Unless the starter has a Heisman-like year, we'll have these three through 2008. The 2008 QB would be a frosh when Boeckman is a senior (clip-board) and thus a RS frosh when Todd graduates (leaving us with three again). I think a QB is a fairly serious need.

TB: Four. We'll have these four for at least two more years. We already have a commit in Torrence, giving us five...that's if he indeed plays RB and not LB. We're not hurting here.

FB: One. Aram Olson is a RS frosh, so unless he goes pro early (how many OSU FBs have declared early under JT?), we'll have him for four years. Whaley has also been moved to FB. Several of the walk-ons could also vie for a position. No need for a FB this class.

WR: Seven. Unless Robo bails after the season, we aren't in really bad shape. We already have one WR commit (Posey) and our TE commit (Stoney) looks like he'll be more of a WR. If Robo stays for his senior year and Stoney slides over to WR, we'll have nine WRs for 2008 even if we don't take another this class. If we can get one more world-class WR, the take him...otherwise Posey and Stoney fit the bill for this class.

TE: Four. Considering how little we employ TEs other than blocking, we're set (we'll have two seniors, a junior, and a RS soph in 2008). While Stoney is listed as a TE commit, me thinks he moves over to WR (see above). Still, he could be grow big enough to be a hybrid and fill both TE and WR needs. No more TEs needed this class.

OL: Ten. If Boone bails for the NFL, make that nine. We have three blue-chip OL commits already, which would give us 12 OL for 2008, but you can never have too many great linemen. I say we need at least one more OL (to complete Block O, of course), and possibly two.

So, on offense I think we need one QB and at least one (maybe two) OL.

DEFENSE:

DL: Twelve. If Gholston leaves early, eleven. I think these number aren't quite as good as they may seem. Abdallah really hasn't panned out and we've had some injuries which have hampered development. We are hurting at DT. We may be able to slide one of the DEs down, but it would be better to get a true DT in this class. We have Williams as a commit who is a LB but will likely slide to DE once on campus, so we need a pure DT and need one badly.

LB: Seven. If D'Animal leaves early, six. We already have one pure LB commit in Sweat and have two other commits (Torrence and Williams) who play LB in HS despite being commited at other positions. One more blue-chip LB is a definite option, but I'm not sure I'd say it's a pressing need.

DB: Seventeen. Yep, seventeen...if Jenkins bails, sixteen. Several of these have been disappointments (Underwood, Patterson, Lane, O'Neal), but the "young guns" (Russell, Coleman, Amos, Gant, Washington) are only RS sophs and have looked very good. Add in seven kids that haven;t seen the field yet (four RS and three true freshmen), I'd say we're set in the secondary for this class. Maybe take a blue-chip "athlete" who happens to play in the secondary in HS, but as for a true DB we're not in a need.

So, on defense I think we need at least one DT and maybe one between LB and DB.

In summary, I think our remain five ships would best be distributed as follows:

1 QB
2 OL
1 DT
with the fifth ship going to a DT, LB, or DB.

Andy Sweat is from my area! He was on the news,it showed him talking to Tressel on the phone. A Trinity graduate:biggrin:!

I believe in the end we will end up getting Scott. So with the other 4 I'd like to get Pryor, Hale and Jenkins. With the last spot I'd like to see a true DT but any of these guys (Goebel, Mobley, McGuffie, Shaw, McCarthy or Koger) will make me happy.
