2008 Heisman Trophy Discussion

Sam Bradford was my pre-season pick so I see no need to waiver now.

I wish I could see him against a good defense. It was pathetic to see him sit back and have seven seconds to throw. What is he like about to get hit, or running for his life, or when he has to thread the needle because his receivers are covered like a sock instead of running free.

He is an impressive qb to be sure, but if a dozen qbs had that much time to throw to that many good receivers against sucky Missouri, they could have thrown for the same numbers, IMO.

Friggin Bama had the best man coverage we've faced all year. Our TDs were with a DB almost hanging on the recievers' backs.

I wish Tim and Sam could have swapped last night, so we could have seen the results. I think Okies roll big with Tebow at QB, but I'm not so sure that we beat Bama with Bradford.

And whether that should make a difference in the vote, I dunno.

Bradford will win the statue IMO.

1) Agreed on the B12 defenses.. But what defenses has Tebow played? Better than the B12's, but... Georgia's? LSU's? Florida State's is probably the best they've played, but you have to assume FSU's defensive stats have been inflated, playing against ACC offenses.
South Carolina, Florida State are considerably better than anything Bradford has seen. That's getting beyond the point, Tebow routinely takes a brutal pounding out there, as a passer and runner. He is not the product of a system, like Bradford. There are at least 5-10 other qbs who could have similar success to Sam with those weapons. I'd argue that UF's system is a product of Tebow more than vice versa.

What exactly was Sam Bradford's heisman moment? Where did he set himself apart from the pack?

I saw Tebow do things the others could not.
I saw Colt pull away from OU in a shootout, and take some brutal shots at TxTech but still give his team the lead late. Colt did not lose that game.
Graham set himself behind the pack vs OU.
What was Graham's moment? Beating a Texas Tech team who was merely 'improved' on defense, not good?
2) Danielson went from the best announcer in CFB to the least credible? Honest question: How much have you watched him? I've watched him for a few Georgia games and he drools over Stafford at least as much as he drooled over Tebow tonight. I was literally surprise that he was all over Tebow; I was convinced that no QB could get close to matching Stafford's overall amaznigness at being utterly amazing, O amazing QB of amazing... Danielson has been the least credible for a long, long time
I don't remember that wealth of hyperbole before the switch to CBS.

Bradford has clearly had the easiest year...

Fair enough, I'll agree with you on that.

As for Danielson: Ah. I've seen him on CBS multiple times this year, so that explains it.

I presume CBS tells him to hype up whatever SEC player he possibly can as hard as possible.

Wrong. If he wins the Heisman again, it's only because he was left in games late (like last year) to roll up stats.
What about the Big-12 trio? They were left in games to roll up stats. On top of that, the Big-12 doesn't play a lick of defense. Tebow hoisted that team on his shoulders yesterday in the SEC Chamionship game vs. the #1 team in the Nation.

Don't get me wrong...Tebow is an outstanding player. But, I just get tired of the fucking non-stop media fellatio-fest.

Absolutely, it makes me wanna puke, but I can't deny that Tebow is the most outstanding player in the country IMO.

I would argue for McCoy. I feel like he carries an offense with many fewer weapons than Tebow or especially Bradford and Harrell. That said, Tebow is a phenomonal player and you really can't go wrong with giving him the bronze statue either.

I really hope Shonn Greene gets an invite. He was outstanding this season in carrying a bad Iowa team to an 8-4 record, with those four losses coming by a combined 12 points.

can we just call this year a wash and skip it? in my eyes, no one has really stepped out ahead of the pack. there are some great players to be sure, but i don't think of anyone in this year's crop as being heisman worthy.

It is your right to have that opinion as well..It's funny that Tebow can be talked about in the same breathe as "best of the decade",and isn't deserving?
