2008 Football Rumblings

That's what had me a little concerned (mind you that it's, what, two weeks into his freshman camp???). I would think that Hooley would have some insight into the practices as he covered them for the last 10 or so years. Maybe not?

"Bruce Hooley" and "insight" cannot, by the laws of physics, co-exist in the same space at the same time.

Herbstriet was on the Big Show in Columbus today and from the sound of things he was at the scrimmage on Saturday.

On Boom Herron:
"Wow, wow, wow!!"

On Pryor:
Sees him taking 15-20 snaps a game. Team mates stand around wide eyed when he is on the field.

On Boekman:
Efficient and no doubt the leader on offense. Not making mistakes and showing much more confidence than he did last year.

Lots of praise for the true freshmen: He mentioned Flash Thomas and Posey and called both "beauties."

Described this team as full of freaks. Get ready and be excited.

I post this because Herby is not usually so free with his praise of the team. He compared Boom Herron to Percy Harvin with power. Said Boom has a little bit of a knee from Saturday, but when he's healthy look out.

You can probably hear the whole interview on 1460 The Fan's web site.

A positive review from Herbie? Someone must have convinced him that his ESPN [strike]pimps[/strike] bosses were not listening.

wow

Imagine how much he'd have to say about them if they played for USC, Miami or Florida.

Bruce Hooley on 1460 here in Columbus reported the opposite of what is being reported to WyoBuckeye.

Hooley said on Thursday or Friday that the reports he was getting out of camp on Terrelle were "less than stellar" to use his words. He even went so far as to ask the question "do you think that TP could end up never playing a down as a QB?" Now, this was in keeping with their "BOLD STATEMENT" segment of the show, so who knows?

I agree that Hooley is pretty much full of shit. But.....would everyone on here be chiding him if he was reporting that he heard great things about TP when the word coming out of practice was less than stellar?

Truthfully, I think so. Improper reporting is improper reporting. All of these sites have insiders with a pulse on what is going on to some extent. It seems like every site has herad/seen positive things in regards to Pryor. If he wasn;t playing well, that is what everyone would be hearing through these same sources.

So yes, I think people would wonder why Hooley's info was so jacked up in your scenario as well.

I have deleted a couple of comments that I made yesterday after reading this quote from Coach Tressel:

We had supposedly a closed scrimmage on Saturday and some of our people brought in little blog sites of 'We saw this, we saw that, we saw this.' Supposedly the got that from whomever. I guess you're just trying to lower the percent of that going on. Our coaches who work hard on what we're trying to prepare I think would rather not have their thought and ideas and game plans out there kicked around until they get a chance to showcase them.

I don't know that the sort of general information that I passed along is such a big deal. However, I think it might be a good idea for all of us to strongly curtail the posting of information obtained from inside of closed practices. I certainly would not want to accidentally divulge any information that might be detrimental to the team.

ESPN Analyst Shows Some Love to OSU

Finally, some positive press for OSU. Sure there's been some positive news recently with the high rankings and returning starters but there's always a caveat about their two NCG losses.

On ESPN radio last night, Ed Cunningham said OSU has been treated very poorly on a national level for one bad loss against UF two years ago. He said he watched the LSU game later in the year and stated that it was no blow-out as everyone believes.

He said USC and UGA are ranked too highly. UGA because they beat up on some no name high school team in the surgar bowl and USC because of inexperience and injuries.

PS. The "College Football Live Show" on ESPN is terrible.

If Hooley was a Buckeye optimist or cheerleader, chances are everyone here would love him for it--he's a local-radio hack on a station called "The Fan", personally I think he should be more of a homer than the "journalist"/critic he tries to be, which is why I spend that time listening to Mark the Shark and Jeff Logan these days.
