2008 Football Rumblings

Agreed!!

BTW, Whatever happened to the outcry for the Big Plodder, Floppy bellied, 2 gap, run stuffer at the nose?
Wasn't that "the solution" to the problem of how to keep the opponent's OL off our LBs?

No, that was the discussion if we ever went to add front defensive base. The 4-3 doesn't have a nose.

If sticking passrushers at DT can win a superbowl and shut down the most prolific offense in NFL history, I'm all for it on the Bucks.

Re: the Buckeyes resembled ice cream left in a central Ohio freezer during the blackout. Messy.

That's what the stuff in my freezer looked like. It is still sitting on my curb waiting on Rumpke (i.e. the trash guys ). In case you are interested; it is now messy and smelly.

This is nothing against our current DT's but I would not mind to have 2 starting DT's their weighed around 320 lbs. I think that JT likes the more "slimmer" athletic DT's but I would like to see some big run stuffers who could get a push up the middle.

Hahaha, you're also forgetting that that D-line is one of the best in history as well.

They didn't just stick two pass rushers on the inside.

There was one sure fire HOF in there, and two (soon to be) perennial Pro-Bowlers rotating in.

I was reading my school's newspaper (The Kennesaw State Sentinel) and was scaning through the "Police Beat." here goes:

Aug. 30, A student reported their Florida Gator's magnet stolen from his car. The student also reportethat someone may have tried to steal the licence plate. Two days later the student reported that the magnet had been placed back under the windshield wipers with a note that read "Fuck the Gators." No suspects are presumed.

Rob Oller commentary: Buckeyes' fade means haters must find another target

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 4:53 AM
By Rob Oller

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
During the hunt for college football teams to hate, the national prey mostly recently has been found grazing in Columbus, where its thin skin is covered only by a cotton sweater vest. Ohio State was overrated, its fans arrogant and its coach holier than thou. Then along came the migration to Southern California, where the Trojans rode herd on the Buckeyes and suddenly it's not as much fun to light into the Luckeyes.
Now that Ohio State is regarded as mostly meaningless by the media -- joining other irrelevant targets such as Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State and the University of Miami -- a void has been created. The nation needs a new team to taunt because the only thing Americans like more than cheering the underdog is berating the top dog.
The choices:
USC -- The Trojans present a tug-of-war because they possess the flash and sizzle that draws both warmth and wrath. SoCal's superiority complex plays well on the coasts -- you mean there is land between New York and Los Angeles? -- but not so well in the Midwest and South, especially in the Southeastern Conference, which considers USC a threat to its self-coronation as best conference in the universe. True, the Trojans like to run up the score whenever possible, but on the flip side the media has a man-crush on Pete Carroll. Verdict: While loving it when USC loses, the Trojans are too West Coast to worry about. Hard to hate a team whose games begin at some people's bedtime.

Wells would add yet another wrinkle
Running back expected to return, form formidable duo with Pryor
Wednesday, September 24, 2008 4:52 AM
By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Everyone associated with Ohio State is thrilled that tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells is back, right? Well, almost everyone. Wait a few days to ask guard Jim Cordle how he feels. Maybe by then the bruises will have healed.
"We didn't have full pads on (Monday), so we were going about 75 percent (in practice), and Beanie was going 100 percent," Cordle said. "He ran up my back a couple times. So it's exciting, and it's painful."
The 14th-ranked Buckeyes (3-1) are hoping it's exciting for them and painful for Minnesota on Saturday when OSU opens Big Ten play. Wells appears ready to return after a three-game absence because of a never-fully-explained right foot injury.
Coach Jim Tressel called Wells "probable" for the Gophers game, provided he makes it through the rest of the week unscathed.
After yesterday's practice, tackle Alex Boone said Wells looked fine.
"He was running all over the place," Boone said. "If you'd have seen him today, you'd have thought nothing had happened to him. He looked great, 100 percent ready to go."
If Wells does play, the Buckeyes believe they finally have some serious offensive potential. Coupled with the mobility and playmaking skills of newly promoted quarterback Terrelle Pryor, suddenly the options are tantalizing.

Pryor to start, but Boeckman has role
Wells expected to face Minnesota

COLUMBUS ? Like any CEO or corporate big wig, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel has personnel issues to deal with every day.

As the Buckeyes begin the Big Ten Conference schedule this week with Minnesota, Tressel is sticking with his rapidly developing apprentice at quarterback, freshman Terrelle Pryor, and expecting to have his top producer from last year, running back Chris ?Beanie? Wells, return to the team in the field.

Those decisions were some of the easier ones to come across Tressel?s desk, since Pryor was sensational last weekend in his first start, and Wells will be a month into his rehab of an injured right foot.

The tougher, more delicate work involves redefining the role of senior quarterback Todd Boeckman, who is in his sixth year with the program and had started 16 straight games before being supplanted by Pryor.

Tressel Becoming Hands On in Effort to Turn Around the Buckeyes
By John Porentas
The Buckeyes were expected to be a dominant football team this season. Thus far however they have looked fairly ordinary in their three wins over rather ordinary competition and rather inept in their loss to an elite team in Southern Cal.
The disappointing early-season performance has left OSU fans howling for something, anything to be done, and fast. Calls for changes in the coaching staff, the play calling, the scheme on offense, the scheme on defense, the scheme on special teams, and changes in the lineup have come from every corner of the Buckeye State and all points between.
OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel is not one that is likely to be bullied about by the fans or make hasty moves, but Tressel is no dummy either. It's clear that he has come to some of his own conclusions about what if any changes need to be made, and he's taking action.

Personnel Report
By John Porentas
The big news this week is the upgrade in the outlook for tailback Beanie Wells in his recovery from the foot injury he suffered in the season opener against Youngstown State.
Beanie Wells

"Yesterday Beanie ran every snap he was asked to run, looked to me better than I thought he might look, says he feels wonderful," said OSU Head Coach Jim Tressel who characterized Wells' status for the Big Ten opener with Minnesota as "probable" at his press luncheon.
Jim Cordle said it was exciting to see Wells back in action at practice on Monday, though the experience had its downside for the OSU lineman.
"Exciting, and painful too," said Cordle.
"We didn't have full pads on yesterday but we were going about 75 percent, but he was going 100 percent. He ran up my back a couple of times, so it's exciting and its painful. We're definitely excited to have him back.
