2008 Big Ten Football discussion

An early look at the Big Ten.

rivals

Ohio State is reloading, Michigan is rebuilding, Iowa hopes it will be rebounding and Michigan State and Illinois appear to be resurfacing.

Overall, though, the Big Ten's image seems in need of repair its 3-5 bowl
record in 2007, which included some lopsided losses. Perhaps 2008 will be rejuvenating.
The work starts now. Here is our Spring Preview for the Big Ten.

W'ere not reloading. Reloading implies that we've lost people and we are replacing them with more of the same. But we're only losing a small portion of our two deep. But to say that wouldn't fit in with the rebuilding, resurfacing, resurgent etc...

Roof named Minnesota def. coord.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Ted Roof has a tough task ahead of him.

Roof was officially named Minnesota's defensive coordinator on Monday by coach Tim Brewster, who put the former Duke head coach in charge of a unit that gave up more yards than any other team in the NCAA's top tier last season.

The Big 10 is gonna be garbage again this year, and tOSU will dominate! But we can't stumble in games we're supposed to win(like Illinois last year), other than that we have no threats in this conference, other than the usual scUM rivalry, but they're gonna get stomped too. USC is our only real test, let's hope we don't face another SEC team in the BCS championship again(if we get selected into the game again, the nation is kind of sick of watching us getting our a$$es handed to us by the same conference).

for the most part he's right......

PSU- They'll always be solid, and a test but they will not have a reliable passing game. Plus with all the suspensions they have there'll be a couple kicked off the team. Big blow with Quarrles gettin in trouble.2

Illinois- Everyone keeps saying they're going to be better, but I don't see it. They lost Lehman who was their everything on defense, and they also lose their best D-tackle. IMO, things will be easier to come by with our offense. Juice will have to throw more because of a lack of a running threat. Sure Dufrain or whatever had that run against us, but that's all he did the ALL GAME. Zook game plans us tough so we'll get tested atleast.

Wisconsin- They could pose problems for us because you KNOW it'll be a night game up in Madison. Good running game, but losing your top cover corner is not a good thing, and with the way we ran the ball on them...

Michigan- No, just no....The talent they have returning almost makes you feel bad for them.... ALMOST.

MSU-they might put up some numbers on offense, but thats it. They lost so much on that defensive front 7 that gave us fits in our game last year. Goodbye pass rush, goodbye TE #80.

The only teams that are any good besides OSU IMO is Wisconsin/Illinois and I think Illinois will have troubles without Lehman/Mendenhall. So really I think our biggest and only test next year (besides USC, who is our biggest) will be Wisconsin due to the fact its in Madison. Plus you got to remember they're breaking in a new QB. Since I live in minnesota a know a players father from wisconsin and he tells me the QB is mobile but makes bad decisions throwing the football...So I think the big ten is going to be somewhat down again. There's not another superstar national powerhouse team besides OSU next year...not one. Where as usually Michigan accompanies us in the top 10, but not next year thats for sure

Indiana QB Lewis suspended indefinitely

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) ? Indiana suspended record-setting quarterback Kellen Lewis indefinitely on Thursday for violating team rules with spring practice about three weeks away.

"He will not participate as we begin spring practice," coach Bill Lynch said in a statement. "Kellen needs time away from the program and we look forward to his return at some point in the future."

Team spokesman Jeff Keag would not give details about what rules Lewis violated.

Yup, Ohio State is loaded again, but along with Alex Boone's Buckeyes, the rest of the much-maligned Big Ten will be better. As spring ball gets rolling, here are the big questions, the most important positions and more for each Big Ten team in the CFN Spring Preview.
