Michigan has come out here to Oahu as late as 1998. However, Hawaii is not a cakewalk anymore and Big Ten teams who have made the trek after Big Ten season have not fared well. In fact, since their last home loss to a Big Ten team (34-18 to Wisconsin in late 2000), they've won three of four against Big Ten teams at home: beat Northwestern (49-41) and Michigan State (41-38) late in 2004 and Purdue 42-35 in late 2006, and lost to Wisconsin 41-24 in late 2005. It would be a very dangerous game for Michigan if they went out to Oahu right after The Game.
The game wouldn't have been in Hawaii, it would have been in Ann Arbor. Michigan wants home games, the better to help pay for the upcoming renovations to the Big House, and now they have eight and don't have to travel anywhere out of the conference. I think the blog assumed the game would be in Hawaii because that's what everyone does, but for the renovations reason, Michigan has been looking all along for a home game. In retrospect I probably shouldn't have dissed Hawaii for not wanting to travel, because I don't think they ever do anyway unless forced to by their WAC schedule. Everyone they play is more than happy to make the trip to the islands, and Hawaii then doesn't have to worry about jet lagging their own team and playing a game when they think it's still 5 in the morning.

It would've been a home/away deal...Hawaii doesn't play OOC teams at their place without a reciprocal visit to the islands (USC, Alabama, Michigan State, etc.).

I'm trying to establish a timetable... it seems the 07 YSU - OSU news broke about a year ago.

When did YSU know for sure it was going D1? Was it within the last year or before?

YSU has been planning on going to I-A for many years (they were turned down by the MAC in the mid-90s), but apparently only recently got the chance (possibly joining the MAC if a team, like Buffalo, leaves)...moving up to I-A is still not a totally done deal. So, you can continue to be disappointed in our scheduling I-AA YSU because Ohio State knew that at least one of the games with them would be with YSU still as a I-AA team.

I don't really like playing a I-AA school but in the world of the 12 game schedule it sounds like this has to be a realistic option for a lot of power schools. I don't think anyone would think better of our schedule, we'd get any great benefit out of playing or have the reality of our season changed playing Utah State, Florida Atlantic, Temple, or Buffalo as opposed to YSU.

Blue back in NIT

By Daniel Levy, Daily Sports Writer
3/12/07

The NCAA Tournament Selection show passed last night without Michigan's name being called.

For the ninth consecutive season, the Wolverines will watch other teams play in the big games they can only dream about, as they continue to share a dubious distinction of being one of just two Big Ten teams that have yet to take part in college basketball's biggest stage since 1998 (Northwestern is the other).

Will Arrington miss the 1st series in the Appalachian St game?

'Issues' force Carr to bench Arrington for spring practice

Angelique Chengelis The Detroit News

ANN ARBOR -- Two returning starters for Michigan's football team -- receiver Adrian Arrington and tight end Carson Butler -- and reserve defensive lineman Eugene Germany will not participate in spring practice, apparently for violation of team rules.

Unless they get close to the red zone. :wink2:

The "minor arthroscopic procedure" for Mike Hart is also worth noting from that article.

Here's hoping they continue to be fuckups. "Possible, not probable" could be a huge continuum though.

Oh yeah, Carr is using these suspension and injuries to not have a spring game. Wouldn't want to give your walkons their moment in the sun, would you, Voyd?

UM's weakest unit, CB, has 5 bodies returning, 3 of which were former offensive players: WR Morgan Trent, WR Doug Dutch, RB Carlos Brown.

The other two are 5'8" nickelback Brandon Harrison & Chris Richards (who redshirted).

Gone: Hall (grad), Stewart (safety),

Putting the injuries/suspensions in perspective (posted by masked avenger on MGoBlog)
A truly dismal press conference.

Two of our best offensive players - Hart and Manningham? Out and limited practice respectively. Our #2 receiver and #1 TE might be dismissed from the team.

Carr's single-answer list of hoped for defensive back improvements dragged on what seemed like an hour, but must have just been mere minutes.

That is not even discussing the fact that we now have only one defensive end, one incoming fullback, and no experienced and uninjured TEs.
