That they played 2 crappy games?

Even though I think scUM will probably win that game I still don't get this logic.

You lost to a 1-AA Team, then get slaughtered by an unranked Oregon team, following that up you beat the team who out of 119 teams has an offense ranked 119, and suddenly people are supposed to gauge how good they are by that?

What kind of logic is that?

Get over .500, and then you have a few more weapons to defend yourself but at this point it looks like you're just being a homer.

...and the only non-crappy game was against one of the most inept BCS teams I've ever seen.

I happen to have little faith in PSU's offense, but it's pretty bizarre for you to be complaining about people judging UM on its actual performance. So frosh CB King is a good indicator of jr CB King?

We would also have accepted 'That they played 1 crappy game?'

Frosh WR Manningham is a good indicator of JR WR Manningham?

I just don't buy the Derrick Williams hype and I see Norwood and Butler as good #2 options. Yes, I'm a Michigan fan. But let's break down the stats.

Manningham: 38 catches, 703 yards, 18.5 ypc, 9 touchdowns in 7 games and change.
Arrington: 40 catches, 544 yards, 13.6 ypc, 8 touchdowns (As #2-#3 option with Breaston and Manningham)
Mathews: 7 catches, 68 yards, 0 touchdowns (As #4 wideout, saw little PT)

Norwood: 45 catches, 472 yards, 10.5 ypc, 2 touchdowns
Butler: 48 catches, 637 yards, 13.3 ypc, 2 touchdowns
Williams: 40 catches, 440 yards, 11.0 ypc, 1 touchdown

So I'd say Michigan's wideouts are better, but maybe I'm being a homer.

you mean when LLLLLoyd cajoled the refs into giving him an extra play?
or was that the year before?

Why yes, that same game. The same game where Paterno also got an extra 2 seconds on during that game (did we forget that part?) and the same game where Manningham made King trip over himself on an out-and-up route for a TD. The game winner was against a zone coverage and Zemaitis was the goat, not King.

I would say Manningham is better but at this point in time I would also say that Scum has no Defensive backfield at all and that Ps does

Not really. He's been much less effective thus far. Congratulations on dodging my point though.

Standout frosh WRs are common, unlike their CB counterparts.

The topic was PSU's DBs covering UM's WRs, which you suggested would play out like 2 years ago.
I'll agree with that. When your best player in the secondary is a freshman (albeit a good one), that's not a good sign.
And there's the key... UM's WRs aren't in a skills competition against PSU's.

PSU's do not have to perform at nearly as high a level as UM's, given who is covering them. Add in an underwhelming start from UM's #1 WR, and I'm not sure what to expect this saturday.

Then again, I love the fact that the guy who is going against the UM secondary may be just as bad at his position (ok, not that bad but you get the point)

I think it's safe to say that Michigan's season is extremely tough to get a feel for so far.

This is a team that was 4 points away from the NC game last year. If you look at the returning members of the team, things felt very similar to the Buckeyes team from last year. Big offensive playmakers and a young defense. Then they perform around 40-50 points below expectations in each of their first two games (I'd say a 45 point win against ASU and a 15 point win against Oregon should have been the expectation at the beginning of the season). Then, they hammer on ND, but what does that tell us? ND has fewer total yards in three complete games than OSU's worst output for a single game this year - and we have a mediocre offense so far!!! It's not like Michigan rolled over a team that is worth anything. So, did Michigan improve between weeks 2 and 3? I don't know.

Then, there's the Nittany Lions. Maybe this belongs in the PSU/Michigan game thread, so I'll keep it brief. PSU beat ND by a slimmer margin than the Wolverweenies. Does that matter? Not if you're Jim Tressel.

I don't know. Michigan should be a very good team this year. Sure, they will give up their share of points and yards, but I still have to believe that they're better than they showed in games 1 and 2. I'll make this statement right now, and then dig it back up at the end of the year - Michigan will go to a bowl this year, and I have a feeling that they will be in the Big 10 Championship hunt. Just a hunch... hope I'm wrong.

SNIPER - how do those receiving stats pan out if both Penn State and TSUN take out their game agaisnt ND?

How do they look solely against ND?

EDIT - And by that I mean this season's stats only

Because the first two games were clearly an indicator as to how good Michigan actually is. And Mallett only threw 15 times last game, so clearly the passing yardage/efficiency is going to be sky high. Ohio State's offense has been mediocre the first 3 games, does that automatically mean they're always mediocre? Nope.

:slappy:

So we're comparing your losses to our wins?

That's friggin beautiful...:slappy:

Let me remind you what you've accomplished this year to date....

Nothing...

That's exactly what a win over NoD means...
