excited? Nothing. But we both know a huge contingent have jumped way off the deep-end when it comes to expectations regarding RR & Barwis' unstoppable combination when given UM's platform.

It may come true, but I dare say you'd find it a bit humorous if ND hired a S&C coach and their fans sounded like yours.

I think the massive hyperbole makes it difficult to dwell on the subject of Barwis from the outside. So many go so overboard that it's hard to do anything but chuckle, let alone evaluate the obvious improvements and reflect on them.
Oh, no doubt about it, on all counts.

(Then again, I generally find ND fans humorous regardless of what they're talking about.)

But I believe this too: Barwis clearly is a worthy subject of a story because I've heard nothing but interesting stuff about the guy. Former MMA fighter. Keeps a pet wolf. That's not even GBW-free-board stuff, it's from people who know him. Whether true or not, he's a MUCH better coach than Gittleson was, and it's fun to pump him up because given some of the stuff that's written by actual sources, the "legend" stuff sometimes doesn't seem too far-fetched. And he seems like definitely the sort of guy that players are very, very loyal to.

Eh...that actually lends itself to your talent commentary.

If a wildman like Barwis had the talent...he would still be a MMA fighter instead of a coach.

You should be excited.

I saw Barwis in action...it is impressive. I saw a 300 lb. lineman do shoulder raises while standing on the large exercise ball...then I saw him raise one foot to give a visual of his balance and core strength. Barwis is full of energy...talks a mile a minute with wild gestures and makes every slight movement seem like a Guinness record. It was a great presentation.

However, I did see some inaccuracies...I did see kids lifting alone quietly away from the team, I did see groups of players walking at practice, I did see players that I was not physically impressed with...starters.

Anyway...you should be excited though. I think he brings something worthwhile even if it is simply fresh air.

However, this is BuckeyePlanet...so what is wrong with us bashing every/any-thing TSUN related?
And you don't see me complaining about it. (Much.) When I do, I have something specific to correct or argue about, so it's really just keeping you guys honest :wink2:

(Was the lineman still hanging on to/lifting the weight for the shoulder raise when he stood on one foot on the ball? If so, totally sweet. Eeeeeeee.)

Edit:
If a wildman like Barwis had the talent...he would still be a MMA fighter instead of a coach.
Lucky for us he's a lousy fighter then  Most of the best coaches were not good players anyway.

Sure was...I was very impressed until I saw him at practice.

He should have stopped with the exercise ball tricks.

If anyone here has ever used one of those balls, you understand how impressive that movement was.

Eh...fine line to walk there.

For a realistic perspective, by the way: I suspect that a great deal of the need for such an improvement in S&C is demanded by the faster-moving offense. Linemen have to move if the quarterback is gonna be taking off running all the time. I imagine that this offense under the previous S&C regime would have failed miserably. No way the old offensive line of fatbodies (remember that pic of Alex Mitchell?) moves around like they're gonna have to. So many of my fellow Michigan fans might be wildly excited over the offensive line being in such better shape, but it'll be nullified, in a way, by the entire game being much more demanding than it was. From the offensive perspective, anyway. On defense is where there ought to be a more noticeable difference between fourth quarters from before and fourth quarters under Barwis.

Quick history lesson: Crisler didn't steal it from Princeton, he invented it himself while coaching there. When he left Princeton for Michigan, he took it with him, Princeton stopped using it, and the rest is history.

The winged helmet is no more the "Princeton helmet" than Script Ohio is "Michigan's formation", despite the fact that the Michigan marching band is documented to have been the first to form it.

When did Princeton stop using the winged helmet?

Here's a history lesson for you: The Michigan band was too worthless to actually do Script Ohio. They just spelled it out. A high school can do that.

Totally uncalled for Jax. Besides, it's a Pontiac word; not Huron.

Pontiac was the individual responsible for the treacherous (and highly ingenious) Chippewa attack at Fort Mackinac (then, Michilimackinac) in 1763, not a dialect of a tribe or sub tribe.

it was a great plan too. Pontiac challenged the garrison to a Lacrosse match. since they played naked, the people of the fort thought they had nothing to worry about... however, the squaws and children were all holding the weapons for the Chippewas. the braves stormed the fort and slaughtered all 93 soldiers garrisoned there. it wasn't until Pontiac's power was decimated by illness that swept through his braves the British regained control of the fort...

I don't get why the tsun fans are so in love with Barwis and RR. Did they watch the WVU team that played Pitt last season. Pitt just absolutely physical destroyed WVU in that game. The worst coach I have ever seen in my life in Wanny (watched him coach the Bears for many years) beat his archrival RR all the while being 28 point underdogs.

So, Wanny and the less talented Pitt Panthers > RR+Barwis+28 points+the more talented WVU Mountaineers???

I just don't get scUM's love for their new regime.

All this Barwis talk reminds me of FSU getting Rick Trickett (former OL coach under DRod at WVU). It was exciting and everyone expected huge changes, especially because of his reputation for getting his lineman in shape and hard-ass style. I think the OL at FSU has gotten better, but the difference isn't readily apparent to the eye.

I'm sure Michigan will be better for Barwis, but if they think he is going to turn the program around, that is laughable.

Since we're being sticklers for historical accuracy, the UMMB's version of "Script Ohio" was a far cry from TBDBITL's version. UM's band walked into position without playing, and then stood in place while playing in the formation. The marching single file formation of the word "Ohio" while playing and the dotting of the "i" was all ours, and a million times more impressive.

BTW, I didn't realize Crisler went on to coach at Delaware.

eh.....I wouldn't want people deciding the quality of our defense based on the Illinois game.
