Texas suspends 2 players over DWI arrests
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Texas defensive end Henry Melton and linebacker Sergio Kindle will miss the first three games of the 2007 season after being charged in separate DWI cases over the summer.
Melton and Kindle will also be held out of the first couple of days of practice and must perform community service for the team.
"I think we've got to send a message and kids have to learn," coach Mack Brown said on Sunday
The Longhorns reported Sunday for training camp for the upcoming season.
Kindle, a sophomore, was expected to compete for significant playing time this season. Melton, a converted running back, had moved to defensive end
full time in the spring.
Kindle and Melton will miss games against Arkansas State, TCU and Central Florida.

Texas hooks Brown for long term with extension through 2016
AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas coach Mack Brown on Tuesday got a two-year contract extension, a raise and a pair of hefty bonuses to come later. He also got a promise of a good job if he ever decides to quit coaching the Longhorns.
University of Texas Regents unanimously agreed to extend Brown's contract by two years through the 2016 season, boosting his salary from $2.66 million to $2.91 million, including a special payment of $100,000 to be paid Saturday, the day No. 4 Texas opens the season at home against Arkansas State.

Texas WR Pittman suspended 3 games for borrowing friend's car
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) ? Texas suspended wide receiver Billy Pittman for three games Friday after learning he broke NCAA amateurism rules by borrowing a friend's car this summer.
In a statement, the Longhorns did not identify the friend but said the person had no connections to the school.
Pittman, a senior, was already going to miss Saturday's game for No. 4 Texas against Arkansas State with a shoulder injury. He will be eligible to return Sept. 22 against Rice.
"I want everyone to know I'm really sorry," Pittman said. "It was an honest mistake and I'll do everything I can to make up for it."
