2007 Spring Game (Gray 17 Scarlet 9 final)

Just got back from the game and had a few thoughts. Wearing the VT logo was a very nice and classy thing for Tressel and the Buckeyes to do. Henton had two very bad interceptions, some great runs, and the rest of his passes were very decent. Henton has plenty of work to do but there is no doubt the ability is there. Rob Schoenhoft looked good in the second half. He had some nice throws but it is hard to tell overall how well the QB's played until they have their entire starting O-Line in front of them. Boeckman is by far the starting QB at this point. That first throw that he made was on the money as were many of his passes. The only problem I saw with him was that when he was pressured he did not handle it very well. Also, the delay of game penalties with Henton/taking timeouts to avoid more delay of game penalties really bothered me. I am hoping it had more to do with the coaches not getting the plays in to them in time and not Henton losing focus on the clock.

Maurice Wells has stepped it up and it is great to see him showing his ability on the field. The Defense looked pretty good. A number of linebackers were getting in on plays and our Defensive ends are going to be unreal. I expect us to get a lot of pressure on opponents QB's this year.

It was great to see a lot of players who have been struck with injuries or that have not made their impact at OSU have good games. Nadar Abdallah, Doug Worthington, Austin Spitler, Ryan Williams, Albert Dukes, Devon Lyons, and Juan Garnier were some of the players who it was nice to see them have some impact in the game.

Also nice to see so many of the young players like Chimdi Chekwa and Dexter Larimore in on a fair amount of plays at such a young age. Best part of the game was when the Gray did the fake punt and I believe it was Trapasso who just leveled the man trying to tackle him.

Overall there is a lot of work that needs to be done but the talent and expectations for a great season are certainly there. GO BUCKS!

They also probably had sixteen vestal virgins, ten maids a milking and a partridge in a pear tree.

Like you said admission was free, still 92K is an amazing number.
They were expecting to see the rebirth and rising of the Phoenix
After years they want their program resurected from the ashes.

A great RB: check
A solid QB who can get the ball downfield: check
Solid if not spectacular WRs: check
A nasty DL: check
Great LBers: check
A couple of stars in the defensive backfield: check

Hate to make predictions when it's this early, but this year fits the formula that won us the title in '02. If we get a couple of guys to step up on the OL and a couple of others playing like 1st rounders, watch out.

Robiskie and Hartline should be far more than solid this season, IMO.

Provided Beanie stays healthy, our offense should be light years ahead of 2002's. A beefed-up MoWells should be a better rotation back than were Lydell Ross or Maurice Hall, and the WRs you mentioned--along with Small--give us more serious of a downfield threat than we had in 2002 with Jenkins, Gamble, and Vance.

Slick Rick says, Slick Rick can feel it. Slick Rick's Buckeyes are going to not be as far down as some people think. Slick Rick says, the defense will have to carry the Buckeyes early, but as the season goes on, the offense will become more efficient. Slick Rick says, when Slick Rick speaks, everyone should listen. See ya bye.

The reason I think they are solid right now is because they haven't done it for an entire season. I expect, however, that they will be a lot more than solid by season's end.

Elaborating on what Mililani said, having a great back like Wells really helps when we are breaking in a couple of young guys on the OL. I really expect our tackles to reach their full potential and play like All Americans. Even though there was some talk about Rehring's conditioning, he played well last season and no way do I envision a drop off there. So that leaves a young center and a young RG that must step up, and it really helps when you have talented players like Person and Cordle waiting in the wings.
