2007 Spring Game (Gray 17 Scarlet 9 final)

I seem to recall having these issues every year. We always seem to have issues with quarterbacks, and defensive line, and even the hot dogs in the concession stands. But remember - there's still more practices to go. And they kept the playbook pretty slim. And, of course, neither of the two teams playing yesterday was truly the Ohio State team who will be playing in the fall.

I'm sure that the quarterbacks will be OK. The receivers will be just fine. The running backs, o-line, d-line, linebackers, defensive backs - all fine. The kicking, on the other hand...

looks like i was the only one that was impressed by henton. *shrug*

granted i was under no illusions that he would walk in and take the starting spot, but still. the rumors of him being a troy clone are more accurate than i expected. henton seems to be a little further along than troy was so it will be very interesting to watch him progress.

I was a Troy fan from day 1

Right, right, you've already reminded everyone on several occasions that you believed in TS before everyone else. We get it.

but saying Henton is not more developed compared to Troy at the same point in their career is, to me, redic.

It's of course been awhile since TS was that young, but I never remember him making such poor decisions throwing the ball as Henton did on Saturday. No offense to Henton, b/c he might be a great QB and he's only a freshman, but on Saturday, it seemed like he threw the ball when he should've tucked it, and he tried to run when he bought himself some extra time in the pocket and could've thrown the ball.

No reason to be a dick.

I guess we just have diffrent opinons of Hentons play saturday then, and diffrent opinons of Troys play when he was a freshman.. but then again its been awhile since Troy was that young not sure why you couldn't disagree more if you can't even remember.

That's a fair point. However, TS playing that poorly would stick out in my mind much more than him making routine decisions that you'd expect out of your QB, no?

Henton was running for his life the entire spring game...hard to gauge that on any level fellas.

While that's true, that statement has been true every year but last year. The QBs in our scrimmages are ALWAYS running for their lives and the defense is always more stout that the offense. That's the nature of those scrimmages and Henton played like a freshman. Oh well...he IS one. My recollection of Troy was how "wowwed" we all were with his incredibly strong arm and how quick he was . But he made some obvious aggressive mistakes as well. Anybody suggesting that Henton looks clearly superior would seem to be in the wishful thinking category as Henton has displayed potential just as Troy did, but he's displayed his fair share of mistakes.

Article on spring game attendance across the country.

EDSBS link

We knew it mattered, but if a program feels particularly hopeful, the best way to see it isn?t in the panegyrics local scribes spit out every time a new coach rolls into town. It?s in the attendance leap from the prior year?s spring game. (Fans in East Lansing must really, really be vibing off Mark Dantonio.)
