2007 Lady Buckeyes Softball - Big Ten Champs! (Official Thread)

Now comes the regionals. It will intersting to see where Ohio State plays and what seed they are. They have some impressive wins this year and played a brutal non-conference schedule.

So they actually scored the game winner as a throwing error on Sengewald, NU's 3rd baseman.

The slap bunt is the most dangerous play in softball. Koko is great at it.

Buckeyes Walk Off with Big Ten Tournament Title, Top No. 6 Northwestern, 2-1

Reeder and Juarez combine for one-hitter as Ohio State scores game-winning run on error; Juarez named tournament's most outstanding player

COLUMBUS, Ohio - With the game tied at one run apiece in the bottom of the seventh inning and one out away from going into extra-innings, Northwestern third baseman Darcy Sengewald's throw to first base on a grounder hit by Ohio State's Nycole Koyano sailed high, allowing Megan Schwab to score from third and give the Buckeyes a 2-1 win and their first Big Ten softball tournament championship Saturday at Buckeye Field. The win also gives 25th-ranked Ohio State (38-16) its fifth trip to the NCAA tournament and its first automatic bid.

Buckeyes Take Title with Run in Bottom of the Seventh
By John Porentas
The pitchers combined to allow just five hits and no earned runs in the Big Ten tournament championship game, a 2-1 Ohio State victory over No. 7 Northwestern. When it was all said and done, it was some strategy by the Buckeyes and some shoddy fielding by the Wildcats that made the difference.
The Wildcats are a power-hitting team that can put runs up in a hurry with the long ball. The Buckeyes can hit it out too, but rely more on small-ball and speed for their offense. Both teams have dominant pitching.

Edit - Here's the revised schedule for the regional.

NCAA Changes Ohio State Softball Regional Bracket

Buckeyes will face Cal State Fullerton, not Canisius, in regional at 7:30 p.m. Friday

...

"In review of the released Division I softball bracket, the No. 3 and No. 4 teams in the Columbus regional were inadvertently placed," Janna Blais, committee chair and Senior Woman Administrator at Bowling Green State University, said. "In order to maintain the integrity of the bracket, the committee decided it was a correctable error thus Canisius and Cal State Fullerton will exchange places in the bracket. On behalf of the committee, we apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused."

In the regular season, the Buckeyes (38-16) lost 5-4 in extra-innings at Cal State Fullerton (30-24) March 24 in the final game of Ohio State's spring break trip in the Los Angeles area. The winner of the opening game Friday between Virginia Tech (48-14) and Canisius (27-19) will meet the winner of the OSU-CSF at 1 p.m. Saturday as the regional continues.

UPDATED OHIO STATE REGIONAL SCHEDULE

Friday:
Game 1: Virginia Tech vs. Canisius - 5 p.m.
Game 2: Ohio State vs. Cal State Fullerton - 7:30 p.m.

Saturday:
Game 3: Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner - 1 p.m.
Game 4: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser - 3:30 p.m.
Game 5: Game 4 winner vs. Game 3 loser - 6 p.m.

Sunday:
Game 6: Game 3 winner vs. Game 5 winner - 1 p.m.
Game 7, if needed: Game 6 winner vs. Game 6 loser - 3:30 p.m.

We now play Cal St. Fullerton, they rightfully changed their mistake making them the 4 seed....we lost to them back in the non-conf schedule 5-4 in a game we blew late... Reeder threw a complete game so Im assuming we will toss Jamee vs cal st and Kim vs V tech since Kim shut the Hokies down in her only meeting with them.

All OSU games in the NCAA Midwest Regionals will be on LIVE and FREE at www.ohiostatesports.com
