It's safe to say that Pitt losing at home to Rutgers by 13 qualifies as a "bad loss" come NCAA seeding time.

I really thought it was a just a matter of time until Pitt might struggle after losing two of their best players...

I really think the Big East is a little overrated...Seems like some of their teams are losing games they shouldn't be losing...

I don't know if it's a matter of the league being overrated or just a lot of pretty good (not excellent) teams that are real hard to beat at home.

That, of course, does not excuse Pitt's loss, though the personnel losses go a long way toward explaining them. Personally, I think Jamie Dixon is sort of the Bo Ryan of the Big East -- gets a lot more out of his players' talent than Pitt fans have any right to expect. But when you're undermanned, you're undermanned.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -Walter Hodge scored a career-high 19 points, Nick Calathes
added 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, and Florida used a huge first-half run
to beat No. 14 Vanderbilt 86-64 Sunday.

The Gators put together a 20-0 spurt that helped them build a 34-6 lead, then cruised
to their 13th victory in 15 games against the Commodores, including seven straight in Gainesville.

Talk about over rated.....Vandy is an imposter.

Who knows, despite all odds, we are leading the SEC East.

Maybe we get to dance again in March?

Wouldn't say Vandy is overrated, it was a bad loss, by how bad they lost, but UF did come out and shoot the ball about as well as they could...

Vandy is really only a 2 trick pony, but those 2 are very good...

Big win for tOSU in terms of RPI tho...

Xavier's Drew Lavender loses control of the ball as he is defended by Massachusetts' Dante Milligan. Lavender scored 19 points.

No. 23 Xavier 77, Massachusetts 65 -- Xavier seems to be enjoying all the talk about its balanced scoring.
Drew Lavender of Brookhaven had 19 points to lead four players in double figures, and Xavier (17-4, 5-1) defeated Massachusetts (13-6, 2-3) in an Atlantic 10 game yesterday in Amherst, Mass.
The four double-figure scorers were a bit off the pace, though. The Musketeers came into the game with six players averaging more than 10 points, but they still were pleased with the results.
"We're a very unselfish team," said Lavender, the team's point guard. "We like sharing the ball. When anyone has a lane, we take it."

No. 4 Duke 93, Maryland 84 -- DeMarcus Nelson scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half, Gerald Henderson added 23 and Duke (17-1, 5-0) rallied to beat Maryland (12-8, 2-3) in an Atlantic Coast Conference game in College Park, Md.

From wire services

No. 7 Tennessee 93, Alabama 86 -- Tennessee blew most of a 10-point lead last night in Tuscaloosa, Ala., but made 9 of 12 three-point shots in the second half to avoid a second Southeastern Conference upset loss in the past week.
Chris Lofton had five threes and 23 points and JaJuan Smith had four threes and 22 points for the Volunteers (18-2, 5-1). Richard Hendrix's inside basket for the Crimson Tide (12-9, 1-5) made it 83-81 with 1:45 left, but Smith hit a three-pointer and Lofton made two free throws with 59 seconds left for an 88-81 lead.

Eastern Arizona Scandal

THATCHER, Ariz. -- Tim Parmeter pulled into the driveway and clicked and clicked and clicked his garage door opener, probably pushed the thing four or five times, best he can remember. But the door never opened. So he shook his head.
He just thought his estranged wife had changed the code like she had changed the locks, because that's the kind of stuff people do when they're going through a divorce. And it was a messy divorce.
img10567325.jpg
It's hard for Parmeter to concentrate on winning after his terrible loss. (Provided to CBSSports.com) There were arguments and fights, countless phone conversations resulting in hang-ups. There were threats, both silly and serious. But the bad moments always seemed to pass with time. And so even though Tim had argued with Paula the previous afternoon and didn't hear from her the rest of that Friday, he didn't really think much of it and, at the time, he figured he'd just stop by the house Saturday morning to see his 2-year-old son, Ryan.
"I was kinda surprised she didn't call that Friday night," Tim said. "But in some ways I was just relieved to not be arguing on the phone."
But now it was Saturday morning and Tim was in the driveway and his clicker still wouldn't work and he was starting to worry. He dialed the home phone. Nobody answered. He dialed Paula's cell phone. Nobody answered. So he finally called Bryana Flynn, the family babysitter, and asked for help entering the home.

NCAA Division I Mens Basketball - CBSSports.com

A couple weeks back, if you read cbssportsline.com, you have read this article about Tim Parmeter, the coach at Eastern Arizona. His wife killed herself and his 2 year old son a year ago. It was a pretty sad story.

Anyway, the story has a twist.... just came out in the Arizona Republic.

THATCHER - Tim Parmeter's estranged wife killed herself 13 months ago and took the life of their 2-year-old son, leaving behind a spite-filled letter and broken hearts.

Parmeter, former basketball coach at Eastern Arizona College, was "absolutely, completely" to blame, his wife wrote. A CBSSports .com story last month on the tragedy presented Parmeter, 37, as the victim of a deranged wife.
