A fashion statement by West Virginia coach Bob Huggins didn't prevent an ugly loss.

No. 22 Kansas State 84, No. 2 Kansas 75 -- Michael Beasley scored 25 points and Bill Walker had 19 to help Kansas State end a 24-year home-court losing streak against previously unbeaten Kansas last night in Manhattan, Kan.
Beasley, the nation's leading rebounder and No. 4 scorer, was 4 of 4 from behind the three-point arc as the Wildcats (15-4, 5-0) took over first place in the Big 12 Conference.
Kansas (20-1, 5-1) lost on its state rival's home court for the first time since 1983. The 24-game streak in an opponent's home gym came within one of tying the NCAA Division I record UCLA set against California from 1961 to 1968.

Cincinnati 62, West Vir-ginia 39 -- Deonta Vaughn scored 18 points and Cincinnati held West Virginia to its worst shooting night in school history on its way to a Big East victory in Morgantown, W.Va., that spoiled the first game for Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins against his former school.
West Virginia's 20 percent (10 of 50) shooting also was among the worst for a Huggins-coached team.

Louisville 71, No. 16 Marquette 57 -- Marquette still hasn't figured out Louisville's defense.

Fwiw Iowa took Wiscy to the wire tonight before losing by 6 and it was a lot closer than that up until the last minute.
Yep... lack of composure on Iowa's part plus some very good defense by Wiscy in the last 2 minutes won the game for the Badgers. Good teams find a way to win those kinds of games.

Duke's Kyle Singler, left, falls to the floor as North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough defends.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Duke has spent this season erasing memories of last year's un-Duke-like struggles. Now, after an impressive win over their biggest rivals, the Blue Devils are starting to look like a team that fits right in with their storied tradition.
Greg Paulus scored 18 points and was one of six players in double figures in the second-ranked Blue Devils' 89-78 win over third-ranked North Carolina last night, ending a three-game losing streak in the heated rivalry.
Jon Scheyer added 17 points for Duke (20-1, 8-0), which repeatedly made three-point shots to control the game. Duke led by as many as 11 points in the first half and never trailed after the break.

College basketball roundup: Knight loses in coaching debut

Thursday, February 7, 2008 3:34 AM

Associated Press

Baylor 80, Texas Tech 74 -- When Pat Knight walked onto the court for his Texas Tech coaching debut last night, a Baylor student yelled, "Where's Your Daddy?" That became a common chant throughout the game.
With Bob Knight at home after his sudden resignation this week, his 37-year-old son is now in charge -- and still 902 wins shy of the elder Knight's NCAA record in men's Division I after an 80-74 loss to the Bears in a Big 12 game in Waco, Texas.

Kevin Lisch, who paced Saint Louis with 25 points, and Xavier's Jason Love, right, reach for a loose ball during the first half.

No. 13 Xavier 70, Saint Louis 68 -- Derrick Brown made a tip-in with 0.1 of a second to go, enabling Xavier to barely avoid a second-half meltdown in an Atlantic 10 victory over host Saint Louis last night.
Josh Duncan led a balanced attack with 15 points for Xavier (19-4, 7-1), which squandered all of a 16-point cushion against Saint Louis (12-10, 3-5). Brookhaven graduate Drew Lavender had 13 points and three others scored in double figures for Xavier, which has won five in a row and 11 of 12.
