Memphis remains unbeaten
Late three-point play rescues Tigers

Associated Press
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Chris Douglas-Roberts and No. 1 Memphis made the shot that counted, then watched Alabama-Birmingham hit the one that didn't.
The result was a down-to-the-wire scare and a still-perfect record.
Douglas-Roberts converted a three-point play with 6.5 seconds left and the Blazers' final basket was a split-second too late, giving the Tigers a 79-78 win last night.
Memphis left with its 44-game regular-season and 34-game Conference USA winning streaks barely intact, and with Douglas-Roberts' main focal point: a win.

Gators missing tournament shouldn't be shocking

By BRYAN JONES , Byran Out Loud

All of a sudden, there is a panic spreading throughout Gator Nation, and I just don't get it.

Sure, the Gators have just lost four of five games and are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament. But did nobody see this coming, uh, I don't know, like nine months ago?

When UF's top six players all left Gainesville last summer, did anyone really believe a group of freshmen and former benchwarmers were going to be an immediate rock-solid lock to be headed back to the field of 65?

Or maybe your encouragement stems from the Gators' performance in the non-conference schedule, a slate featuring only one team (Ohio State) who will even bother watching the tournament selection show, and the Buckeyes are basically a bubble team as it stands now. The Gators were pummeled in Columbus, and they were blown out at home by Florida State, which is in 11th place out of 12 teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Fighting Irish trailed 51-40 when Sam Young hit a 14-foot jumper with just under 14 minutes left. But Notre Dame responded with a 21-10 run, tying the score on a three-point basket by Kyle McAlarney with 5:49 left. College basketball roundup: Tigers' 26-0 record on line against Vols

Saturday, February 23, 2008 3:02 AM

Associated press

New England had its shot at perfection.
Now it's Memphis' turn.
The top-ranked Tigers (26-0) are trying to become the first Division I men's basketball team to make it through a season without a loss since Indiana in 1976.
First, though, they'll have to get past second-ranked Tennessee, which visits Memphis tonight for a rare 1-2 showdown.
"Everybody else is talking about it," Tigers guard Antonio Anderson said. "You go to the stores, gas stations, wherever you're at, everybody's talking about it. It's a big game. We know that and they know that."

Does anyone else have a problem with Drake being ranked in the Top 25? I understand that they're 23-3, but who have they beat? lol

I guess we'll find out what they're all about tonight when they play Butler

I think they lost last week to someone and they certainly should get handled by Butler. I do not think they will be in the Top 25 next week. If they our, they will be very very lucky.

NJ Tech completes 0-29 season with loss at Utah Valley St. - NCAA Basketball - Yahoo! Sports

NJ Tech completes 0-29 season with loss at Utah Valley St.

OREM, Utah (AP)?New Jersey Institute of Technology coach Jim Casciano had seen this all before. In fact, he had to watch it more than any other Division I coach in history.

NJIT completed an 0-29 season Saturday with a 76-50 loss to Utah Valley State, setting an NCAA record for futility.

?You keep waking up and it?s the same thing,? he said after NJIT set a record for losses in a winless season in a 76-50 loss to Utah Valley State.
The previous low for an entire season was 0-28, set by Prairie View of Texas in 1992 and matched by Savannah State in 2005.

NJIT is on a 33-game losing streak, dating back to Feb. 19, 2007, and is one loss away from tying that record.

The sensational high-scoring freshmen can't beat teams on their own.

Beasley set a Big 12 record with 44 points and Walker scored 31 on Saturday night, and yet the Wildcats lost their fourth straight road game, 92-86 to Baylor.
