2006 Running Backs Discussion

we can see clearly that pittman is "the man" neither wells has the stuff to replace him right now. but I do think that C. wells will be 2nd in the depth chart if he isnt already. He will be the next "man"

It will be interesting to see if Beany can move up to backup by the end of fall practice. No way do you supplant a guy who got 1300 plus yards, running forwards or backwards. Can Mo build up the strentgh and improve his knowledge to stay ahead of Beany? Will Beany be able to learn the offense and improve enough in the scheme and his blocking?
If Beany does not then does he red shirt? Are we forgetting the fullbacks in the short yardage scheme of things?

We only have to wait 16 lifetimes to find out haha.

:oh: :io:

Mo showed on Saturday that he has developed some strenth with that 9 yard carry not just going down after the first contact... im pretty sure that Mo has more knowledge of the playbook the Beanie has... the only thing holding Mo back is his size... he will be able to get bigger once he is in his junior and senior year... its going to be crazy if pittman leaves... if Mo can put on another 7-10 pounds we could have a thunder and lightening

i agree with you on wells light. mo this year reminds me a little bit of pitt in his freshman year. you can see the vision, speed, acceleration and mentality are all there. but he needs just a little more muscle to be able to power through the armtackles. he'll get there, will probably just need another offseason. which will fit perfectly with pitt having another year of elegibility.

I think that Beanie will pass Mo up this year. I question whether Mo can put on enough weight to run thru the line. I hate to say it but he just hasn't impressed me yet.

MoW is explosive. I think we need to get him the ball on swing passes and screens. Maybe some pitches. Get him to the corner quickly...Comparing him to the other backs doesn't seem fair to me. He does different things well. Get him in space and he is a threat to go the distance every time IMO...

Looks like I'm about to loose some serious v-bucks. I was sure Beanie would show more by this time. I thought that fumble at the NIU game would put him in the hole, but Tress has shown faith in him, he just hasn't been able to keep him in there very long... perhaps because he doesn't know the playbook... but that didn't stop MoC. If Beanie had shown the ability, he'd be starting. Right now he's still a season away. Damn!

The 6.6 ypc from Pittman has quite a bit to do with him continuing to hold down the job.

Any further discussion is almost certain to devolve into arguments over semantics.

Is Beanie a year away? Well, maybe a year away from dominating, depending on what you mean by dominating. Certainly he isn't a year away from contributing, depending on what you mean by contributing.

Know what I mean?

running the ball is not the problem. IIRC, he's only been in on one pass play- the swing he caught against Cincy last week- which, to me, indicates that he doesn't have the protections and the blitz pickups down... MoW, despite his relatively diminutive size, is pretty damn good at picking up blitzers.

Did you really think Jt was going to replace a 1400 yard rusher with a freshman? Pittman is an All American talent and while Beanie may be in time, It will be after Pittman leaves. 6.6 ypc is a keeper.

Big Ten Games :) The bruiser will be let go
IF! IT will be only after Pittman has his yards or needs a breather. It surprises me how much little regard you have for Pittman that you think Beanie will supplant him. What did he get against Cinci ? about 3 ypc? The Big 10 will be harder to run against than Cinci.
Pittman will continue to get most of the carries and the workload.

:) never said, Wells would take his spot. Just telling you that he will get more carries when the short yards are needed and a lot in blow outs.
