Why is it that everytime I see this photo, I hear Michael Jackson going "Hee hee...sha mon".

As for MoWells, it's too early to judge Mo's ability. Pittman struggled as a frosh except vs IU (even Ross looks great against them), and was swallowed up against UM when teams stacked the box (much like most of Mo's garbage time carries).

Pete Carroll wanted this kid for a reason... he is absolutely dynamite in the open field. Get MWells in space on a screen, sweep, etc and he should be dangerous.
Am I missing something? Is Beanie having serious troubles with blocking assignments, or is there just speculation that this is an area of concern for him? I've read a lot of this in various threads.
he had a lot of trouble blocking in the jersey scrimmage & spring game. He can and probably has improved since then, the question is how much.

I think it's just a normal concern that pass blocking is the thing that freshmen backs have to learn. The really good ones come in ready to carry the ball, but need to protect the QB before they can stay on the field.

After a few more practices the comments from the coaches will be a better indication of where Beanie stands.

yup thats it. tressel wont play backs who cant block and if beany cant or wont then he wont get the carries everyone is expecting him to.
Be that as it may pittman may have a Heisman year, in which event neither wells will get a whole bunch of carries. I firmly believe that pitt can have that good a year.

are you forgetting that he was a TRUE FRESHMAN last season... since then he has packed on another 10 pounds and shows he can pick up the blitz... what more does this man have to do... you so high on beanie that your not giving the NUMBER 2 BACK a shot... when your a true freshman and your out on the field first you have to shake the nerves then you have to remember the plays... so its easy for a true frosh to look lost out there now that he has a year of experience you will see what my boy can do...

I'm really looking forward to seeing him (MW) this year. I really think he needed about ten more pounds last year. He still looked like a high schooler to me last year (size-wise). He looks like a college RB to me now in that pic in your sig...We are loaded and I love it...

Am I missing something or just not understanding the pass blocking situation? I just cant imagine how C Wells wont get many carries on short yardage situations even if he cant pass block as good as Pittman or M Wells. The dude is an animal and with his size can easily get those short yards for first down. Pass blocking is only gonna matter in a clear passing situation and with a beast like Chris Wells im sure they will keep the ball on the ground more and keep pounding it. I love Pittman and totally agree he is the most underrated and one of the best backs out there but I just dont see how as big as C Wells is that Tressel wont put him in alot in short yardage situations unless he fumbles a few times. Its gonna be a beautiful day to see C Wells and Pittman both lined up in the backfield and just hammer through the line both can get the job done I just feel C. Wells size makes him more potent getting those extra yards is short yardage situations.:oh::io:

The only small problem I see with this is that we can't not pass just because CW is in there. Every defensive coordinater we play would catch that tendency. He's got to be a decoy sometimes, which means he'll need to know the blocking schemes. However, I'm not sure how this subject even came up. I didn't see anyone in this thread say he's not good at pass blocking...Maybe I missed it?

you are right about the blocking. and JT has said wells is improving in his blocking but needs to do more improving.

Running styles, do you agree?

Haw - Like Edge James, slides under the tackles to get 2 more yards.
Pittman - Never seen before, turns his back when he's about to get tackled.
C Wells - Like Clarett, a lot of stiff arms.
M Wells - Like L Ross, gets tackled at first contact.

I liked Haw behind C Wells for running style. But Pittman was incredibly productive.

I don't agree with that one. If Mo Wells goes four years averaging 3.3 ypc, you may have a point, but I think it's very premature to label the kid a soft runner based only on very limited duty as a true freshman. I think it's very likely he's going to be a much more potent weapon in the offense this year, and for the following two years.
