2006 Pre-Season TOP 10??

Why Michigan isn’t listed among the national title contenders: It’s Michigan. You know what’s going to happen. The perennial underachiever doesn’t have a defense good enough to survive the Big Ten schedule unscathed with road trips to Minnesota, Penn State and Ohio State.

Yep.

Going 12-1 and (most likely) playing USC in a good ol' fashioned Rose Bowl match up would be sweet. However, going 0-2 against Texas would leave a bad taste in my mouth, considering the chances of ever playing them again during the regular season is slim to none (honestly, I think we should make Texas our 12th game of the year every year...the parallels between the two programs are uncanny). Losing to Texas wouldn't be so bad if somehow we get to rematch them in a bowl or for the whole enchilada in the desert.

I personally think the defense will be fine. As good as this year at linebacker? No way. But good coaching and a strong desire to prepare can work wonders in the off-season. They'll be tested a few times early, especially at Texas.

The wild-card here is Beanie Wells. If that kid can do what it looks like he can do, then our best offense will be a mix of Woody Hayes, Fun 'n Gun and your worst nightmare as a defensive coordinator on an opposing side. If your offense is sitting on the sideline, it doesn't score.

Another loss to Texas would be a nail in my side that could not be removed for many years to come...

I would love a Big-10 championship and a Rose Bowl win over USC almost as much as a Fiesta Bowl win. There's something about the Rose Bowl that I love so much. Last year could have been completely perfect for me. We were so close to going to the Rose Bowl which would also mean the National Championship and ending USC's 34 game winning streak which would be payback for the 70's. Damn, I feel like we really missed out. Everything was set for us to make a run. Kind of hard to let it go even though it was still a fine season. Anyways, I would be perfectly happy with a win over Texas, Michigan, and USC in the Rose Bowl. :oh: :io:

I have a hard time believing that USC is #3. Losing Leinart, White, Bush, Bing, and three starting offensive linemen? I don't care how much talent you have waiting to step in--you can't lose your best players on both sides of the ball and not take a step back.

I think they've been the epitome of a school that just "reloads" over the last few years. [you could throw in Miami back a few years ago as well.]

I don't know if i can honestly say that i see anyone going undefeated this year. texas has a shot, but playing tosu, ou, @ nebraska, @ TT. those are tough games and i would not be suprised if we lose one or two of them. If we are lucky enough to beat yall and give our qb some confidence then there is no doubt that the rest of our team in NC quality. Really gonna be a fun year. I would be very happy for Texas to win the Big 12 and go to the Fiesta bowl(not the NC in arizona, the real fiesta).

If Texas loses to Texas Tech I will give a compliment to michigan on bigfootball.com. It won't happen.

USC has TWO QBs who were rated #1 in their class. They have Jeff Byers who, as an OL, was rated the #1 player in the country (they have recruited seven OL who were rated 4 or 5 stars). Counting JUCOs, they have recruited FORTY ONE players in the past four years who were rated in the top 10 at their position (compare that to 19 for OSU).

Their recruiting is just sick.

Still, I would agree that #3 is high if there was anyone else out there returning a juggernaut. Certainly a team that loses nine starters on D does not meet that definition.

its not like texas hasn't struggled against them before....granted that was with carl reece as our DC, the same man the decided to line our MLB over center everyplay, I agree we should win that game, but it is a tough one never the less. TT has the loudest/roudiest HighSchool stadium i have ever been too.

its not a gimme game, especially if we have already lost to tOSU and OU

Even though they had 9 wins last year they were about as easy as it gets so they definitely didn't make me a believer. Once the season starts I will be able to get a better feel for each team but I just don't see them winning unless Texas decides to not show up.

Not to sound Oregon-ish, but if we beat Texas and Michigan I will assume we can handle everyone in between. If we do that and we DON"T go to the NC there's gonna be hell to pay. Our schedule and those quality wins and we get put in the Rose Bowl? No thanks. Now if we lose one...hey, I'll take whatever. And as for HL's comment about nobody going undefeated, I have a hard time believing nobody will do it. Whoever wins the NC will have gone undefeated throughout the entire season. It's almost a must in college football. If the headlining teams can't do it, be prepared to see some black horse sneak up the rear and steal a spot. Somebody in the country has to have a weak ass schedule and just enough talent to fool pollsters. I'm looking at you Pac 10 (or Big Least). By the way Lonesome, you gotta full body shot of that girl in your sig?
