Ah, yes, I was measuring.... overratedness, I guess... not consistency from begining to end, thanks.
ntd: I get the same absolute value (164) for BP, but get 167 for AP, not 123. I simply disregarded the minus signs and added up all the numbers, as both 6 and -6 were 6 places off the original guess.

Well, then, using Mili's numbers BP pollsters are better at predicting the AP end of season results than the AP, right? Well, across one trial, anyway.

BKB, the BP poll with differences shows aTm as being ranked in the final poll, when they should be NR. That will change the numbers a little.

Let's see who goes pro and the season end and then we'll have a better idea. I have no problem with TSUN in the top 5. Unfulfilled expectations breed discontent!

I wouldn't have too much problem with Michigan being ranked in the preseason top five nearly every year if they would actually finish there once in a while. They've finsihed in the top five exactly two times in the last 12 years. And now essentially the same team that just lost five games for the first time in over two decades is a top five team?

FL, FSU, and scUM are perenially over-ranked. It's getting old.
I heard one of the ESPN geniuses spouting off how "if FSU beats PSU, look out for them next year and they will be ranked top 5 preseason." (I think it was May)
It may take the press a while to forget the Cooper era and realize that Tress will have the Buckeyes consistently better than scUM, and that they no longer own us, quite the contrary.
The only purpose that pre-season polls serve is a negative one - to cause the pollsters to perpetuate the mistakes they made at the beginnig of the year.
Don't come out with polls until after the 4th week and you avoid MANY problems with the polls - even if magazine sales are hurt, boo hoo.

Ding ding ding....
The BP poll, in my mind, showed that a lose collection of people, even when clearly biased in favor of one particular school (Although I think voters in the poll did a good job of not expressing bias towards OSU), can do just as well if not better than the so called "experts"

I too am no statistician, but don't the numbers change when you apply the numbers to the final poll and factor in teams that weren't ranked at the beginning of the season like Penn State who would be like a +40?

<!-- inset --> <!--begintext--> In the spirit of a completed season, and considering that I was blown away by how well Ohio State played in its 34-20 Fiesta Bowl victory against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, I thought I would fast-forward to predict the Top 5 things we'll be saying about the OSU football team during the 2006 season:
• 5. Anthony Gonzalez has become one of the best big-play receivers in OSU history. Late in the fourth quarter on Monday, Gonzalez caught a 15-yard pass on 3rd-and-11 from a scrambling Troy Smith. It was reminiscent of Gonzalez' jumping, bending catch against Michigan that set up the winning OSU touchdown.
• 4. Two OSU running backs rush for 600 yards. The quick, darting Antonio Pittman again passes 1,000 yards, and 6-foot-1, 225-pound bruising freshman Chris Wells opens his OSU career with more than 600 yards.
• 3. Ted Ginn Jr. totals 15 TDs — 10 receiving, three rushing and two on punt returns. But, wanting to do more, Ginn declares he will return for his senior season to join new starting QB Todd Boeckman.
• 2. Troy Smith finishes second in the Heisman voting. Unfortunately, Notre Dame's Brady Quinn was just a little bit better and won by the third-smallest margin in Heisman voting history.
• 1. Auburn wins the national championship in a 34-28 victory against Ohio State. Smith finishes his OSU career with 280 passing yards but is stopped on a scramble at the 3-yard line as time expires.
