2006 Heisman Discussion (merged all)

Troy Smith once threw a touchdown pass with the entire cast of Who's the Boss, the referee Lllllyod car got fired, and a sack of potatoes on his back....with his eyes closed.
Now that's just irresponsible. Unless, he closed his eyes to prevent the defense from reading them, and predicting the destination of his pass.

Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn leaves the field following a 47-21 loss to Michigan in a college football game in South Bend, Ind., Saturday.

1. Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State - Even

1. Troy Smith, quarterback, Ohio State - Unless he stumbles, Smith is likely to run away with the Heisman this year. However, his legs aren't giving him the advantage over the rest of the field. The dual-threat quarterback only rushed for 5 yards Saturday, but threw two touchdowns without surrendering an interception this season.

2. Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma - Up

2. Adrian Peterson, running back, Oklahoma - Though Oregon made a concerted, publicized effort to stop him throughout the game, Peterson still averaged just more than 6 yards per carry Saturday and gained 145 yards in the fourth quarter alone. For his efforts, Peterson was named the Big 12 offensive player of the week for the second consecutive week.

3. Chris Leak, QB, Florida - Even

3. Chris Leak, quarterback, Florida - Though he only threw for 199 yards and gave up an interception, Leak showed Heisman-worthy leadership ability by throwing for all three of Florida's touchdowns in Saturday's 21-20 victory over rival Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., including the clincher with 6:30 left in the game.

4. Steve Slaton, RB, West Virginia - Up

4. Steve Slaton, running back, West Virginia - Slaton rushed for 195 yards on just 21 carries against Maryland on Saturday, including two 30-plus yard touchdowns in the first quarter. Slaton yielded 20 touches to his backups and is still leading the nation in rushing, although he hasn't faced any ranked defenses.

5. Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame - Down

5. Brady Quinn, quarterback, Notre Dame - It's too early to write him off completely, but another game like Saturday's against Michigan and people might forget Quinn was ever the Heisman frontrunner. Though his backs and receivers offered no support, Quinn surrendered three interceptions and a fumble Saturday and showed an inability to rally his team.

Because if they knock Quinn down too much they may anger the big man upstairs.

Ye, and it was written that Notre Dame shall receive media attention for a potential title run and Heisman hopefull candidates (and boxers or pitchers) until their first loss of the season, and from their first loss until a time in which the preseason comes again, their tough schedule shall be mentioned at least twice per sports broadcast, and so it was written. If the media shall break any of thine commandments the wrath of Touchdown Jesus shall fall upon them and poor ratings and a plague of Mark Mays shall sweep across the land.

i have to believe that when -- not if -- smith has a big game with his arms and his feet, a la tsun, he will create a wal-mart sized separation between himself and the field. this performance from smith may not happen until michigan, which is just fine with me. there couldn't be a better game for that to happen.
