Meyer campaigns for Gators

CAMPAIGN SEASON
UF coach Urban Meyer won't talk about Florida's chances to win a national title and refuses to answer any questions about the BCS, but he finally did stand up for the Gators, who are fourth in the BCS rankings behind Ohio State, Michigan and West Virginia.
Meyer said one reason his offense has sputtered lately is because Florida has played some of the top defenses in the nation -- LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn.
''We've played several [of the top defenses], '' Meyer said. ``Ohio State doesn't have any. Michigan doesn't have any. What's the correlation between that? If you've ever played this game or coached this game or understand this game, the correlation between you're really good and I have to go against you, it's not going to be as easy. If you're awful I'll kick your teeth in. If you're not, we're going to battle a little bit.''

Yeah, that Texas defense really sucks. And Penn State's defense is the worst in NCAA history... right?

I'd also like to see the computer formulas and see why they pick Michigan ahead of Ohio State (not that that matters, really).
The computers see our schedule as stronger. To the computers, a weak Big 12 makes our Notre Dame win more impressive than Texas, and Wisconsin gives us a boost, too. Though, the only place it really matters is when considering a possible championship game rematch.

Some of the formulae are published, such as Colley's.

This link from Jerry Palm's site discusses some of what he's found about the others: http://www.collegebcs.com/bcsfaq.html#Know

Louisville, W. Virginia benefit from loss

By TOM STUBER - IR Sports Writer - 10/31/2006

Both Bobby Petrino's Louisville Cardinals and the West Virginia Mountaineers were benefactors of the Southern Cal loss to Oregon State last week.

That word....I do not think it means what he thinks it means.

Is Urban Meyer talking about the same stout Georgia defense that gave up 55 to Tennessee? That being said, I do think Texas and PSU are solid as well as scUM obviously being the best of them all. We'll see how TS and Co. do against scUM and then Urby can talk.

That's hysterical. Poor Urban -- whose offense doesn't work because he can't pick a fucking QB -- is upset because those SEC defenses are so dang tough. Good luck with Vanderbilt this week, coach, and S Carolina next week, and W Carolina the week after that. :roll1:

I didn't hear Meyer bitching about the system two years ago when his Utah squad waxed 11 cupcakes en route to a Fiesta Bowl bid.

i looked up one computer SOS ranking and it had us 117 of 119 teams!!

http://teamrankings.com/ncf/27powerratings.php3

(with Louisville and WV being 118 and 119)

certainly won't help this week when we play ILL and Louisville and WV play each other.

disclaimer: I know nothing about this site or what criteria they use to calculate SOS

That has Stanford ranked #1 in SOS.

Oregon
SJSU
Navy
Washington St.
UCLA
Notre ame
Arizona
Arizona St.

Shaker - not sure why you picked that ranking. BCS does not use it. After a cursory overview, I think it is easy to see why. EDIT - In the alternative, the rating and rank on that page is by no means complete, perhaps not even run? Compare to his Main ranking page, which seems a little more sensible.
Most BCS Computer polls seem to have the top two team (Ohio State and Michiagn) with a schedule strength somewhere in that 25 and 10 range, with Michigan currently getting the nod for the tougher schedule. some of these computer polls do not explicitly include a measure of SOS, though they claim to adjust for the same.

txs. sangk the other polls you link to are definately more reputable.

I linked to the one i did, only because it came up #1 when i googled "strength of schedulre college football"
Google ranks pages based on a complex matrix of links throughout the Web. When Google indexes a link from one Web page to another, they weight the referrer and destination by relevance. The more links a Web site has pointing to it from relevant referrers, the higher it'll be listed in a search result.

The site you linked ranks #1 at Google because everybody who has ever visited that site then went to a college football message board and posted, "Hey, look at this idiot," and included a link. :wink2:
