2005 Winter Conditioning (official thread)

i'll paraphrase some tidbits i picked up from the world of cyberspace:

RB - apparently staff is RAVING about Haw, and excited to see what he can do in spring ball, Pittman was apparently out of shape and lacking effort

WR - TGII was clocked at 4.22 in the 40, and there was another receiver under 4.3...................Gonzo, at 4.26 (yes this track and their hand times always turn out crazy 40's, but still blazing nonetheless)

OL - Sims will stay at T, staff loves the way Person/Mitchum are coming along at G, Datish won't be more than a backup, Rehring will def. be in the mix

DL - Maupin is gone, supposedly the entire DL have put on some solid lbs. and kept their speed, Pitcock expected to have a huge breakout year

LB - Carpenter is up to 262, Hawk 248, both kept speed...........Kerr is "definitely in the mix right now

CB - Whitner is at CB, but "fought to stay at S"

With him wanting to put on weight maybe he's gearing for defense???

Not hardly...

He didn't grade poorly by any means, but I think people are giving Zwick a little bit too much credit. He had all day to pass (horrible pass rush) against poor coverage and he still almost messed up the wide open TD pass to Gonzo (who rescued it out of the dirt)...

I'd like to see anyone throw the ball accurately with a freshly pulled hamstring. And Smith has missed his fair share of open receivers.

Ah, the inevitable Zwick vs. Smith debate again. Everyone has their side of who they like. Smith played remarkable in the Michigan game, and no one can deny that, but he did mess up in a major way, which has to play a part in any decision being made (also, since he obviously will not start the year). Zwick's play in the bowl game was definately solid. But, problems of consistency plagued him last year (as they did Smith), so it's up in the year.

Overall, Smith's best game was a one for the history books, and definately better than Zwick's best game. But, Smith's problems are also on a larger scale than Zwick's, and he did play just as erratic at times. The arguments are right there. Fire away.

If it helps, my roommate played them a week or so ago. They got beat, but apparently they're nice guys...

Kids on campus, busting rumors left and right...Also, I saw Rehring at Market Place, got out of his way cause I was afraid he'd EAT me...goddamn he's huge.

It's always a little fascinating to see how some kids pan out, i.e. Datish vs Hawk...

I am extremeley hyped about our team, the hardcore effort in winter drills...geez, Carpenter at lbs262!!!! Man, that's a Mack truck comin at ya...

the speed at wr...someone will be open if the schemes are setup...

...any news on Nader Abdallah(sp) ?????

Glad to hear there were others who heard about the bball team. I was not trying to dispute his claim, just rather wanted verification (or even some cool pics out of the request).

Carpenter at 262 is simply unfair to opposing players. I'm pretty sure ESPiN will work out an angle on that one too.

I'm SOOOO thrilled about Haw. I thought he could have an awesome shot this year as mwells might not be ready and he can't dwindle as next year cwells should earn instant carries. A kid much bigger than pittman who might actually be faster (he wasn't max emfinger's #1 super athlete RB for nothing)... gosh. The Shot-Ginn just went to a whole new level.

I think if Ginn doesn't go to the Olmpics in a couple years then I can see him being a faster and more game breaking type of player but also in the same mold as Santana Moss
Most people don't know what Olympic speed is-including a lot of posters on this board. From everything I have read on the web, Ginn has an outside shot to be an Olympian in the hurdles. In football and everyday speed is that fast as hell-absolutely-Olympic speed-not quite. I honestly don't expect Ginn to get any faster-not that it matters. If Ginn can develop the hands that Moss showed in college-not necessarily w/ the Jets-and his willingness to take punishment over the middle-he should be the #1 pick in 2 years.

If indeed this is a true statement, you should take photos of one fo their games and post them here. We'd all love to see pics of this fact... sorry if I'm a little suspicious but there's too many out there that would make this up just to sound cool. How would you stop ginn on an inbound play, or as he flew around the court getting picks set for him? Or is he just at shooting?
I had a friends younger brother play them in bball, and they only lost by three.
He didnt say anything about ginn, but did say Troy didnt miss, every shot a fade away jumper.

Just to clarify, I do believe you guys. I was more cynical than convinced that the guy was making it up... glad to hear they are tearing it up. If you had to have anyone on your side on the team, I'd take Ginn. He seems like a pretty good ally and someone whose words would carry a little more weight since no one of the team can replace him (obviously an upper classmen would have more clout for swaying the team about smith)... just putting in my $0.02

Its funny cuz my roommate told me the same thing the other day. Said he saw T.Smith and Ginn at Jesse Owens and I got the same report. Ginn really isnt that good at basketball (well...........im sure he's still good and better than me but not compared to his skill in football) and T.Smith is an absolute baller.

The buzz around town is that Ginn will be used exclusively on offense next year. Hunter from the Dispatch had a little tidbit yesterday stating that the coaching staff (heard from inside sources) has no intentions of using him on defense, he's too valuable on offense. He also stated that the coaching staff is not expecting E.J. Underwood to return. The move of Whitner to CB pretty much backs up this claim and the Ginn claim I think. Youboty and Whitner at CBs, Salley and Mitchell at safeties.......not bad, not bad at all. :wink2:

Daddy--I don't think you can keep Tyler Everett off the field either.
