2005 Winter Conditioning (official thread)

Very good update! Good thing to hear about Haw! I'm puzzled by Pittmans performance of obviously out of shape. You have a chance to be the running back in a very dangerous offense and he was the starter some last year I hope he kicks in gear he has a very big opportunity here! Also as pointed out Our linebackers are very good size! What bout Schlegal/D'andrea? what are they doing? Those times I believe of 4.22/4.26 are probably legit Gonzo did run a 4.3 last year so its not far off at all especially with a year to get faster. Very very excited about this team! I just hope we don't have to endure as many close ones this year! GO BUCKS!

I also agree with Everrett getting the nod over Mitchell. Concerning TG2, I recall reading recently that Coach T told TG1 that his son would play CB in red zone situations.

Sounds like a good strategy to me. The difference between 3 points and 7 points is huge when it comes to Tressel Ball. This strategy limits TG2's reps on Defense, and also puts our best players on the field during crucial times during the game. Covering less field also means he can conserve more energy. I like it, if true.

Go Bucks!! :osu:

Wasn't there a report that Pittman was in a little hot water toward the end of the season? It may have been right around the time of the bowl game.

I have to say as good as Hawk is I think Carpenter may make the better pro. He just screams 3-4 with his size and speed.

I think with his size and speed, carpenter could make an amazing MLB. That being said I would take either Hawk or Carpenter on my pro team.

Good point Buckinmichigan..... I too feel Carpenter will make a better pro and thats just mainly because he can be used for so many things. I still feel that AJ will be 1st round material no doubt about that, and the fact that Carpenter might join him in the first round speaks volumes on how talented we are... Don't forget that Schlegal will be a high pick. I wish for D'andrea the best but probably won't get drafted extreamly high if he dont' put up huge numbers this year. Yeah Pittman was also in hot water pretty much the whole later part of the season.

It seems that every time Gonzo and Ginn are talked about by players on the team they seem torn as to who the faster guy is.

It has to be Ginn doesn't it? He's world class. Gonzo is no slouch, but Ginn takes it to another level. I watched some highlights today and the punt return against Penn State shouldn't have happened. The punter got good height and his guys didn't over run the coverage. Ginn just got the ball and had a burst that made the punt coverage look like it was standing still.

Ginn is absolutely amazing.:banger:

The way I understand it, Gonzo and Ginn both have 'all-caps' speed. I seem to have the impression (and don't ask where it came from, cause i don't know) that Ginn is FAST, and gonzo is QUICK--as in Ginn's got better top-end speed, while Gonzo has better acceleration

I could just be making it up, and let's face it... any way you cut it they're both hella fast.

Gonzo isn't just quick, the boy can flat out run. He's "deceptively fast", as they say. I watched a few practices and he had TD after TD where he'd be open deep, and you keep thinking "how's he that open?". Then you realize he's just running past guys while they worry about Holmes.

As far as Pittman, I've been telling you guys he's got some issues. He was in the coach's dog house majorly for a decent part of the season. He didn't travel to at least one game and didn't play at all in at least one other from pure disciplinary reasons. He was skipping a ton of class, he was late to team meeting after meeting, and he wasn't interacting with the coaches very well. Honestly, the comparison I got was "another EJ Underwood situation". Boatloads of talent at a position of need, but coachability and off the field issues may keep him from doing much of anything at OSU.

Haw seems to be on the other side. He had some problems earlier, but he talked to some teammates and some coaches and got through them. Now he's poised to be the starter. He sees the prize and he's not letting up while Pittman is coasting, thinking he's entitled to it or something. The light needs to come on for Pittman, both for himself and for the team's sake.

I think "deceptively fast" is the best descriptor for Gonzo, whereas Ginn's got like a "super-cruise" thing going on. Like all great sprinters, Ginn makes it look effortless. Download Ginn's the PR for a TD during the scUM game, cover up Ginn's legs as he burns Finley. You wouldn't be able to tell if he was jogging or sprinting flat out. Thats what sets him apart. Fast backs or receivers like Reggie Bush might be able to put up 40 numbers in the same ballpark, but watch the footage - knees pumping and arms chugging along. Ginn seems to float into the endzone unlike anything I've seen.

It starts with the D-line

We are looking real nice with the recievers, but I think the D-line is the main question mark next year. We need to get pressure with the front four which did not happen for much of last year (this is understandable considering how many guys graduated). Pitock, if he stays healthy, will undoubtedly be the anchor. Green really came on and started causing problems for opposing teams towards the end of the year. I would really like to see someone else step up in a backup role so we can keep Pitock and Green fresh. Patterson is due to live up to the hype. He seems to be very athletic, with a good motor to boot, but I think he will always rotate between tackle and end because he seems to lack the weight to get push on every down. He has also seems a bit injury prone, but if he can avoid injury I think he will be a very solid 3rd lineman. I am curious to see who among the younger guys will step up. Has anyone heard anything recent about any of the young guys?

If Kudla stays healthy, he'll be an absolute beast this year. Pitcock is prime for a breakout year.

Although he isn't a D lineman, I am very anxious to see Marcus Freeman at LB this year. I've heard that he is going to be something special. My cousin is the head scout for Jacksonville Jaguars, and said that Freeman is going to be very, very good.
