Looks like they are rating Iowa high based on good overall season and the startling bowl game:

Iowa thrilled the college football world with its stunning touchdown on the final play of the Capital One Bowl. Now Iowa is hoping to play in a BCS bowl, quite possibly the national championship. Quarterback Drew Tate, coach Kirk Ferentz and a deep linebacking corps makes Iowa our pick to win the Big Ten.

Michigan gets a higher nod despite the questions on defence
Michigan's offense is loaded with talented as Chad Henne, Michael Hart, Jason Avant and Steve Breaston return. Defensively, the Wolverines have some questions marks, but this will be one of Lloyd Carr's elite squads. As usual, the Wolverines will be in the thick of the Big Ten race right to the final weekend and the Ohio State game.

While tOSU is given (I think) a wait and see score -- weighted negatively by lack of running game last year.

Ohio State ended last season on a roll, hammering Michigan and Oklahoma St. in its final two games. The Bucks will look to continue that momentum during a rigorous September that features Texas and Iowa. The Buckeyes will be led by Ted Ginn Jr. and a stout defense. If Ohio State gets solid quarterback play and a running back emerges, watch out.

I'm not sure I buy the ranking for Louisville, possibly winning the Big Easy - but that means what in the real world?

The Vols and Texas get a lot of love, and of course the Trojans were bound to occupy Pole Position in any Poll.

Coach Philip Fulmer has numerous weapons at his disposal, enough to win the SEC championship game this year and not just reach it. Whichever quarterback emerges will have Gerald Riggs at running back and a talented receiving corps, while the Vol defense, especially along line, can dominate any game.

Texas was one loss to Oklahoma away from an undefeated regular season. If the Longhorns and quarterback Vince Young can finally solve the Sooners, Texas could find itself back in the Rose Bowl, only this time playing for the national championship.

Tried looking for the rankings in a thread - but wasn't found by me. Merge at will mods.

I posted them in the NCAA2006 thread, because the geniuses at athlon decided to use these same rankings in the game, thus destroying any anticipation of "who's next?"

I dont know how long the list has been completed on athlon's site tho.

Thanks for clearing that up - Why didn't that post show up with a Search for Athlon I wonder?

Anyway - as for how long the list has been up at Athlon, complete - only as of today 6/3.
They were adding to the list on a periodic basis before that time.

Seems like as good a place as any to list the preseason polls. Anyone have the complete Sporting News Poll? I've only seen bits and pieces of it doing news searches and have listed what I've found so far. I sent all of this to Mili already and he should be putting together a sortable preseason consensus poll (like last year) in the next few days. Thanks Mili.

I figured some of them out, and right now it looks as if USC is definitely #1, and then Texas #2, and Tennesse #3 as far as the average of the polls. Ohio State and Michigan are both tied, averaging a ranking of 6.45 for both of them. Then right behind them is Iowa, averaging 7.3.

how wonderful that EA went with the service that ranked us the lowest, which i'm sure effected their ranking of our players on the game........i was looking forward to a dominating OSU team online this year........as it stands they should be able to stack up w/ the best

any poll that has oklahoma ranked ahead of us, i can't take seriously. i have no idea why the media has such a blind love for bob stoops. just because you shut down chris weinke does not make you a defensive genius. especially when a whole cast of characters have shredded your defense since then.

if ou was in the big ten or sec, they'd be lucky to break .500 this year. as it stands, they'll probably only lose 1-2 games during the regular season (and yes, texas will beat them; it reminds me of the '98 michigan game, yes they had a mental edge over us but the difference in talent was enormous; also, our loss to mich st knocked the national title pressure off, just as texas's loss to us this year will knock the pressure off for them)

The Sporting News Big XII edition is on news stands down here in Austin, Texas. Normally I really respect their opinions but they are seriously bad this year.

In their unit rankings Aggie is number one in every single category except DL and OU is no greater than third in any. Yet in the individual position rankings Aggie is consistantly ranked below many others. So if the individuals aren't good how can your units be the best?

Example of their contradictions:

Position rankings by player:

MLB

1. CU-Thaddaeus Washington
2. UT-Aaron Harris
3. MU-Dedrick Harrington
4. TT-Brock Stratton

OLB

1. OU- Rufus Alexander
2. CU- Brian Iwuh
3. KU- Nick Reid
4. KS- Brandon Archer
5. AM- Justin Warren

Yet in their unit rankings:

LB

1. Texas A&M
2. Texas
3. Colorado

Clearly a condradiction. I love it when writers do dumb shit like this.

Other than that their analysis is decent so far.

Here's the rest of their national Top 25:

1.USC
2.Tennessee
3.Ohio State
4.Va Tech
5.Texas
6.LSU
7.Miami
8.Michigan
9.OU
10.Iowa
11.Florida
12.FSU
13.Georgia
14.Aggie
15.Cal
16.Auburn
17.Purdue
18.Ga Tech
19.Louisville
20.Boise State
21.Bowling Green
22.Iowa State
23.Virginia
24.Arizona State
25.Utah

My personal Top 10:

1.USC
2.Texas
3.Iowa
4.Michigan
5.Tennessee
6.Ohio State
7.LSU
8.Va Tech
9.OU
10.Miami

I have CBS SportsLine, CollegeFootballNews, Lindy’s, and Scout rankings loaded. I won't load ESPN's yet because they have two yahoos with different polls...once ESPN comes out with their consensus yahoo poll, I load that. Also, I assume that the "SI.com" poll is the CNNSI poll...

Yep, CNN/SI. Also, thanks to drycreek you can add the complete TSN (The Sporting News) poll as well.

Here's a link to the draft page which will need a little cleaning up, but for now it seems functional. Note that a non-ranking gives a team 26 points in calculations (whereas they get a point equivilent to their standing, one point for 1st place, 15 points for 15th place, etc.). That's why Virginia has an average of 24.14 although being ranked 22, 21, and 22 in the three polls they appear in (Athlon, Blue Ribbon, and NationalChamps.net), because they're getting 26 points in the other four polls they're unranked in (CBS, CFN, Lindy's, and Scout).
