10/1/05 - Madison, Wisconsin
This past Saturday the Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Madison, Wisconsin to play in a Midwest match. With a 1:00 kickoff, the Buckeyes started off strong and continued all throughout the game. By the 8th minute scrumhalf Cody Albright was able to make his way to the try line and put 5 points on the board for Ohio State. In the 13th minute by way of a penalty kick from the 40 meter line, the University of Madison-Wisconsin was able to convert three points for the Badgers. In the next ten minutes the Buckeyes drove down the field but were unable to score until Charles “Bubba” Bleakmore came through a gap. Wing Andrew Kender was able to score seven minutes later to keep the Buckeyes rolling. Three minutes later flanker Bleakmore scored his second try of the game. The Buckeyes drove back down the field and in another three minutes flanker Bill Myers took a ball from the scrum over the tryline. The Buckeyes continued to dominate and this time 8-man Jake Legros was able to find the try line three minutes after Myers. After the half the Bucks came out strong this time with prop Zach Huston scoring in the 49th minute. After some superb runs by center Alex Moller, inside center Phil Nightengale was able to score three minutes later. Within two minutes flyhalf Tonderai Kambarami was able to score by juking out three defenders. Wing Doug Olson was able to contribute to the score in the 68th minute from a breakaway. 8-man Jake Legros also contributed two minutes later for his second score of the game. Flyhalf Tonderai Kambarami also contributed his second score of the game after another two minutes. Four minutes later fullback Dane Robinson broke through the Badger defense and was able to score five more points for the Bucks. In the 40th minute center Alex Moller was able to help add to the score for the Buckeyes and close out the game. Andrew Kender converted 8 of his kicks to keep the final score at Ohio State 86 and Wisconsin-Madison 3.

The B-side played right after the A-side and continued to dominate. The young Bucks started off early with fullback Tommy Herderick scoring in the 4th minute. Lock Cody Albright scored six minutes later off a breakaway. Flyhalf Dean Panik was able to convert a penalty kick in the 19th minute. Within a minute, flanker Eric Shulte caught the ball and made a great breakaway. Fullback Tom Herderick then found the try line in the 20 minute. Nine minutes later wing Nick Bell scored off a breakaway from Tommy Herderick. Two minutes later prop Knab was able to score. Wing Matt Paluta was able to score his try five minutes later on a breakaway. The other wing Nick Bell was able to score once more before the half for his second try of the game. After the half in the 13th minute, winger Nick Bell drove down the field and scored once more. Junior Matt Paluta scored five minutes later. The University of Madison came on a breakaway and was able to put five points on the board. Then in the 30th minute, lock Jewitt scored to finish the scoring for the day. Dean Panikk converted 5 of his kicks and the game finished at Ohio State B 63 and Wisconsin 5.
The next game is another Midwest match this time against Illinois State. The Buckeyes will play in Columbus at 1:00. The game will be at Fred Beekman Park (the corner of Lane and Kenney). All are encouraged to attend and root the Buckeyes on to another victory. Illinois State has a good rugby program and the game should be an exciting one.
