Thanks fellas...I was real pleased with our effort in the second half. Much better play than in the Illinois State game. We should have a pretty good gauge on what kind of level of play UNC is going to bring here next weekend as they play Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Thursday. So far this year, UNC is 4-1 with wins over UNC-Charlotte, NC State, South Carolina and Radford. They are just outside the top 25 right now. Their lone loss was to the men's team out of Raleigh. I certainly expect them to be at least as good of a team as Virginia Tech if not better, but we will see. Either way, I expect some decent rugby this weekend...

I don't know what to say. Only 50 points?!? Clearly, you guys were slacking off.

That's a great win and you guys are really making us proud. Things will get tougher pretty soon, so keep working on the fundamentals. Ball recycling, second, third and fourth phases, scrumming...I still think you guys can go all the way this year.

Earlier this season, Eagle wing David Fee worked out with our team for about two weeks, providing invaluable instruction on techniques and gameplay. David is 2nd on the USA's all-time try-scoring list and also served as the 7's captain for the national team this summer. This week we are fortunate enough to welcome Eagle flanker Andy Ryland, who will be working with our players all week. Andy was a 3-time Academic All-Big 10 linebacker at Penn State and a All-American in rugby. I posted Andy's resume from the usarugby.org website below, but as you can see, we are fortunate to have some of the most talented players and coaches working with our players, and will only benefit us down the road.

Andrew Ryland

flanker ... 6'3 ... 240 lbs ... born March 8, 1981 ... 4 caps (debut v Canada May 2005) ... no international scoring record ... New York Athletic Club (New York, NY) ... performance enhancement specialist ... earned his first cap against Canada in the 2005 Super Cup … toured Ireland and Italy in November 2004, his first call-up with the National Team … a 2004 Collegiate All-American, Andrew toured Canada in August, appearing as a substitute against Canada Under-21 … as a football player, a three-time Academic All-Big 10 linebacker at Penn State University … Andrew’s father Terry is past head coach of Penn State’s rugby team, several times leading the Nittany Lions to the university finals

the easiest parking is across Wood Hayes Dr. behind the North Campus courts. it's free to park there, even without a permit when there isn't a home football game going on. during home football games, many people park in the mall across from Tommy's Pizza and walk down Lane Ave to the fields.

I'd like to see you give scUM payback for the 86-0 football beating they gave us in 1902. With your team, 86 points is possible.

Michigan is a much improved team over years past. And they gave us a battle last year at our place in one of the worst weather days of the year. Snow blowing sideways and temperatures in the single digits. We came a away with a victory but lost some players that day due to injury. This year in pool play they beat Arkansas-Slippery Rock 12-8 and lost to Indiana 40-7. That being said, the talk about this game is already starting around campus. The Lantern will most likely be doing a story leading up to the game and we expect to have a good turnout. I am glad that we are playing a team like Michigan...a little extra incentive the weekend before the Midwest championships will definitely be a benfit to our players.

We will definitely do our best to make BP proud...

I think it is safe to say that our performance yesterday was indicative of a lot of people looking ahead to the start of the Midwest champhionship next weekend and our showdown with Michigan. In an 80 minute game, we played well for about 7-8 minutes. Luckily, that was enough to come away with a 41-20 victory against a scrappy UNC side. The Tarheels were a solid defensive team and were able to turn us away several times with a solid kicking game. The referee slowed the pace of the game down to a crawl, so in the second half we began to play much more smashmouth and tried to pick up the pace of the game by constantly quick tapping penalties and playing a lot of quick and slow ball with the forwards up front. The idea was to start crashing and get the pace of the game picked up. This lead to a couple of nice tries by our forwards early in the second half which put the game out of reach. UNC added a try on an intercepted behind the back pass by our flyhalf during injury time for a 41-20 final. I think as a staff, we will review the film from yesterday, but all in all, we are ready to move on to next week. And you know what that means...
