Game Thread (2004) Game Four: @ Northwestern - 10/2/04 (L, 3-1/0-1)

I guess I don't get the "bring Smith in" stuff. Zwick and Smith are both young QBs that have to mature through fire. Smith hasn't taken a game snap in what, 3 weeks? When we're down 10 on the road, I don't see bringing in a cold QB, when your starter is playing about how he has been all along -- like a young inexperienced QB. He's not doing anything to lose us the game, the only difference between this game and the last 3 is that our D is underachieving. Looks like we've never seen a bubble screen before, which is funny to me since that's ALL we see.

So anyway, IMO, doesn't matter to me at this point whether Zwick is the starter, or Smith is -- what I don't want to see is either one getting yanked just so we can see if the other can 'provide a spark'. They can provide a spark, or they can come in cold and throw a pick.

Zwicks struggles now (or Smith's, if he ends up taking over at some point) will make him a better QB in the future. Ignore our #6 ranking, this IS a rebuilding year. Big time.

As far as the game itself, eh. We're down 3, NW is moving the ball again (there's the real problem with this game), it's not like we don't know how to win the close ones. If we don't win, well, I'm not ready to start to digest that possibility.

Our team is what it is. If anyone should be taking flack right now, it should be (IMO) Mark Snyder and the defense. We've known all along our offense is lacking, there's nothing new or different tonight on that end. This reminds me of the Michigan game from last year. The D is just playing down. Piss poor game plan in the face of a seemingly great one from Walker.
