If nothing else, and it's not a "moral victory" to say this:

1) OSU proved itself to be among the nation's elite. This game could have gone either way.
2) OSU gave the defending champs all they wanted and then some

Don't feel too bad... I look forward to the day when Nebraska loses a nat'l semifinal. (or even makes a bowl game)

See you guys around... 's been fun.

Appreciate the kind words.

The thing that eats at me today, and will always eat at me, is the sentiment “the game could’ve gone either way”.

I just disagree.

These teams, both at 100%, is not that competitive, IMO. When Wade was ejected our defense lost its most important (not best but most important) player. It changed entire complexion of game.

I struggle with that. I think OSU was the significantly the better team. Some mental errors (two dropped TD passes), a targeting call, and a horrible overturn of a fumbled catch ultimately decided the game.

But in terms of the best team? We have LSU playing a team that is lucky as hell to be in the Championship. It took a confluence of multiple events to get Clemson across the finish line.....

And to add to this, im sure we all appreciate the kind words, but this game wasn’t needed for proof they are among the elite. Year after year they’ve proven that. That’s not OSU’s goals.

Fucking hell.

I mean, what else can you say? Just wasn't going to happen that night. How many damn things can go wrong that did, and yet they were right there at the end. This was a great team. Probably the best OSU team since '73, but greatness only extends so far after the 10th mistake or act of fuckery.

Sometimes everything breaks against you on a certain day and there's nothing you can do about it. Take the anger and disappointment and put it on a low simmer for a year and forget everything else.

I understand many of you are still frustrated about the outcome of the game, but I’d like to chime in once more after reading a bunch of the posts over the last few days.

Whoever thinks there was some sort of conspiracy with the refs is simply too biased or angry to think rationally. Were there some bad calls? Perhaps. Does this happen in every game? Generally, yes.

I assure you there is no SEC/ACC conspiracy with ESPN, at least not with the latter conference. If you cared to look at the Clemson message boards throughout the year, you’ll see how much most of the fans despise ESPN because of their love-fest with the SEC. ESPN has knocked the ACC all year long. Every single one of their analyst. The majority even said Clemson didn’t belong in the playoffs for most of the year.

I read above that ESPN wanted Clemson in the NCG over OSU. That is blatantly wrong. Do you know how much more money an OSU/LSU championship game would have brought in? A ton. It’s also good to have some new blood because the general college football fan is getting tired of Bama and Clemson at the top. We’re the bad guys now and there is fatigue with the same matchups year after year.

For a message board poster on another team’s website, I’m about as unbiased as they get. I think some of you guys need to man up, take off the tinfoil hats and scarlet glasses, and realize that your team just wasn’t ready for the moment. I thought you had the better team that day, but experience won the game. Clemson has been there recently and the team capitalized on the moment. OSU’s inexperience showed in not being able to close-out the game when they had plenty of chances to at the end. It’s as simple as that.

I know what hard losses feel like (I’m also a diehard Philly sports fan). I’m old enough to have been through some pretty crappy years with most of the teams I root for. Sometimes you just need to tip your cap and move on with some dignity. It’s just a game; it’s not life.

ESPN is Biased against FOX and Big 10. That irritates our fan base. Whether this bias actually affects announcers or officiating or CFP most likely not. But fans are weary because the Bias is real.

I agree with a lot of what you posted, but this here is flat bullshit. "Wasn't ready for the moment?" I'd say the manner in which we came out and punched you right in the mouth shows we were...you're quite fortunate that it wasn't 24-0 instead of 16-0 early on. 500+ yards of total offense, despite turnovers, also says otherwise. You point to our "inexperience". The vast majority of the players had played in the Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl in consecutive years (winning both) and three straight B1G title games (winning all three). Quite a few were also on the team when we lost 31-0 to you in 2016. This doesn't include the annual biggest game in all of college football against That Team Up North. They've been on big stages numerous times. No, it wasn't your "experience" or our "inexperience". It was a combination of two absolute shit calls by the on-field and replay officials and three misfires by our offense...four TDs left on the field. Now, our offense had made those type of mistakes for most of the season, but was able to get away with them all year because we weren't playing teams that were clearly among the top three in the country...it came back to bite us.

Well said

Edit: and in light of all that shit, still had a chance to win it at the end. This team had fight for days.

I'll move on with dignity when you admit it was a fumble.

To summarize, neither will happen.

After looking at the clip, I do not think that it was Chris's fault at all..

This is what I talk about when I mention JF's maturation and development as a passer. Middle field DB steps down to bracket going from a MOTC look to creating a MOTO look. Olave starts a speed cut at 9 seconds, ball should have been gone about that point. But when you take a raw passer and pressure him all game, he starts to see ghosts and not trust his reads.

I look forward to watching Venables throw that look at Burrow... Joe will smoke that and have time to go shake hands with his line before the official even signals TD.

Even though you think otherwise, none of those games you mentioned were anywhere near the same stage as the CFP. It’s a different beast.

I actually think you proved my point at the end of your post. You said you weren’t playing teams that could make you pay for your mistakes. Well that comes with experience.

The easiest comparison is when Clemson went to the 2015 title game and came up just short against Bama. Most would say we were clearly the better team that game...but for a few mistakes. We still had chances to win, but couldn’t seal the deal. We were inexperienced.

Clemson then came back the next year and won it all (in the closing seconds of the game, Watson to Renfrow). We learned what it took to win that type of game from the loss the year prior. We saw a more experienced team do it, and we adapted. This is exactly what OSU needs to do. And I will say that it’s just as helpful for the coaches as it is for the players. You may not think it now, but even in a loss, this experience may still help your team for years to come.

I don’t think it was a fumble. I agreed with the rules official on the broadcast. Slow-mo was pretty deceptive in that case.

I believe the refs let them play on because that’s what they are supposed to do in similar situations (as a “just in case”). However, I don’t think the call should have been overturned. It seemed more like a “play stands” call to me. And I can understand why opposing fans would have a hard time with the call.

Note that OSU was the next team to score any points after that play. Say all you want, but your team still had plenty of chances to close out the game.
