The thing that makes last night such a tough pill to swallow for me is the inconsistency the replay booth showed in the two plays that everyone is talking about.
Without trying restart the targeting debate, I am of the opinion that the call was technically correct, but there was no intent and the rule as enforced is unfair in situations such as last night. In the end the Buckeyes had to pay a severe price due to the way the rules were written.
But then when the tables were turned, Clemson did not have to pay the price they should have had the fumble also been officiated to the letter of the law. Watching the play at full speed, I can see the argument for incomplete pass - I don't agree with that argument, but I can how someone would argue it. However, fair or unfair, the ruling on the field was made and should not have been overturned. In other words, even if it was an incomplete pass, the call should have stood because there was 'dispute'. Sorry Tigers, that's the way the rules are written.

Gene Smith quoted as saying “we’re pissed...go ahead and quote me on it” to Pete Thamel.
I think the more underrated/underreported aspects of this is the cynicism Ohio State, and largely the Big 10 has with the current system.
Smith removed himself from CFB Committee bc he always had to remove himself from room whenever discussing OSU making playoff. He felt like they were getting fucked and wanted to replace himself with another Big 10 AD who could fight for the conference (OSU) so Iowa AD replaced him.
Obviously they deserved to be in this year but felt they got fucked on seeding moving to #2 seed after dominating the season (LSU is deserving of it, but the sentiment isn’t unfounded Big 10 took short end of stick.....again)
Then they were told it’d be an SEC officiating crew and they were skeptical. They didn’t like it.....wanted PAC 12 or Big 12. That’s where Ryan Day’s shots are coming from when he said he’s “angry about the game” and he thought “it was very strange”.
The two biggest plays were initiated by replay and basically overturns....a call down to stop game on Wade (wasn’t called on field) and the fumble return where call on field was correct according to most people. Certainly wasn’t enough to overturn and that includes a guy who teaches college officiating.
I’m disappointed because I think OSU was better team. Mostly annoyed with coverage Clemson is getting for their “will” and “toughness”. They weren’t doing shit until Wade was ejected....straight up, OSU was dominating them for 2 quarters (Wade ejected with 4:35 left in 2nd Q).
OSU shot themselves in foot with FG’s, dropped TD’s, roughing punter, etc.....but the officiating (or more accurately replay booth) really got in OSU’s ass. The fact it was an SEC replay booth is the cherry on top.
This was lead officials explanation on the catch: “"Instant replay in the stadium as well as back at the video center, they both looked at it slow and fast and they determined when he moved, the ball was becoming loose in his hands and he did not complete the process of the catch," .......in what world was was the ball moving at all??? Dude possessed it immediately....great hands catch....it was never moving at all.
Whether you’re a conspiracy theorist, or someone who understands basic economic prinpiles and the billions on dollars at stake for ESPN/Fox Sports, you can’t get around this current conflict of interest that is hanging over college football. To my knowledge, it exists nowhere else. Where a TV Network has staked its college football claim in two conferences (SEC and ACC) but they also have tremendous influence over who gets into 4 team playoff, what seed they’ll be, etc.
And then you’re going to put an SEC crew (major partner of ESPN) as the officials over a game in which ESPN is openly rooting for an ACC/SEC championship?
It comes across as sour grapes, but there is a lot of skepticism inside the Woody right now. They’re stunned. I’d recommend reading Pete’s article...he doesn’t go into a lot of the backstory I did above, but it reinforces what I’m alluding to....

Right! When explaining the reversal the specific reason given was that the ball was moving. But watch the ball. It was firmly in his hands. No movement. He took 3.5 steps after catching the ball. That's a football move. Then Okudah knocked it out.
I'm my mind, we won the game by one point. I accept the targeting call. But this reversal was a crock. It was ruled on the field as a catch and fumble and a TD return. There was no indisputable evidence to overturn it. Just the opposite. The evidence confirmed the call on the field.
If I was Ohio State I would put up a banner that reads: 2019 14-0

I still can’t wrap my head around this game. Ohio State could have just as easily beat Clemson by 20 points. Then everything went wrong. And they still looked like the better team with multiple chances to win.
I honestly assumed/believed they were going to win and I’d be looking forward to a championship game in 2 weeks...all the way until the last pass.

We had the better team. It is hard to swallow. Clemson is a great team, but we had a better coached one. We beat Clemson 7 times out of 10. We lose the three with the SEC fucking officiating crew and win the other seven with ACC, Big12, or PAC crews. Unreal.
I haven't seen this mentioned, and maybe I am just bitter. But I truly believe the SEC officials had a bias because anyone watching that football game clearly saw one team dominating the other, and the SEC crew did not want OSU beating their precious LSU asses. Refs take pride in the league they work for. I know several officials, and they want their league to be this and that etc. I seriously believe bias was a factor in the BS reversal of the scoop and score. They can go fuck themselves.

Another thing to bitch about is how super cool it was that OSU had to go to war with one of the most talented, and arguably best, Clemson teams ever while LSU got a depleted OU team with an already average defense.
I'd bet my lifesavings a #2 OSU that dominated #6 Wisconsin 52-0 wouldn't jump say, a #1 Georgia team that was down 21-7 to #8 Alabama in the SEC Championship and mounted a furious comeback to win by double digits.

First time poster but longtime lurker, but I just had to login and post because this one as a fan hurts so bad.
But on these types of 50-50 games, this is the way it goes sometimes. It seems every bounce and break went their way, then I remember all the games in the past where every bounce/break/call seemed to go our way. This is just the way it goes some nights.
A small solace? I don't think Clemson is going to fare well against this LSU team. And honestly, I'm not sure we would have either.
The LSU matchup scared the heck out of me because Burrow is just amazingly accurate down the field. We've got the jimmy's and joes on the back end for sure to hang with their elite guys on the outside, but even if you can matchup with Chaise/Jefferson and that other guy fairly well burrow is so remarkably accurate on passes 15-30 yards down the field that it really doesn't matter. Time and time again this year he has dropped the ball into dime sized windows even when the coverage has been good. Honestly Oklahoma blows goats, but just seeing that LSU team again yesterday makes me feel more comfortable that we weren't going to have enough to get past them, and I don't think Clemson will either. And i wouldn't be surprised if it's a 17 point type game. So I take some solace in that...if this were a national championship game last night or if we would have been facing a team I would have liked our chances more against...this would probably hurt even more.
But sometimes you just have to say it's not your night. Last night was one of those....
What we as a fan base need to NOT DO is whine. because that is not going to look good or age well. And I think for the most part we haven't.
