#2 Ohio State 85, Minnesota 67 (Final)

Lady Bucks lose to MSU 62-59 in the Schott. A last second half-court heave from Packer bounces off the front of the rim. Outscored 19-8 over the last 8.5 minutes of the game.

Nice win for the fellas! Need to have that intensity every possession guys!

perhaps the key stat of the game: 16 3-point attempts at 44%. all but a couple were in good rhythm. the team actually ran through their offensive sets today, which means that the offense ran through greg. greg doesn't have to get a touch every time, but he certainly needs consistent touches.

Congrats to the Bucks.

I thought they finally put a pretty good complete game together. I like Cook starting, and Lewis coming off the bench. Lewis seemed to play a lot better coming off the bench.

Great job on getting the ball to Oden, he had great touches on the ball all game.

Conley continues to amaze, what a game I think he had 5 steals, and 6 assists.

im gonna try and keep this short (seems like i always say that though)

bud light ads on tv. hillarious. that "no speak english" one makes me laugh and laugh and laugh out loud. the walter one was good too.

chevy pres day ads. awfull, i mean bad. and i had to see it how many times?

time on the floor, no one played 30 mins...

4 players (hunter, oden, lewis and harris broke 14 pts.

rebounding, 40 to 30. happy to see that.

3 for 10, second half threeball shooting. same thing i saw a tendency for guys to settle for shoots in the second half. frustrates me after seeing what they can do when they are more proactive. im all for shooting the 3ball, but pressing your shots is something these guys tend to do. though i liked how they attacked in the fastbreak rather than a 3 in transtion, especially ones that arent wide open...

lewis, seems to be a lot of man love for his play. i wasnt impressed. mckenzie ate his lunch in the frist half, it wasnt until they switched off lewis for butler that he slowed down. getting beat off the dribble, failing to fight through screens, lack of defensive effort and intensity. that being said i really feel this team lacks a "streak" they seem to nice. ron is the only guy who plays like a punk. i dont mean this in a negative way, but hes the only one who has a chip on his shoulder, the only one with a bad attitude etc, however you want to say it, i dont see it out of other guys. until i see it youll see ron playing big time minutes even though he may not be the best option on the off or def ends of the floor.

twig. as highly discussed that last few weeks. had a nice stretch thier with oden on the bench and pushed the lead out. you know what youre gonna get at this point if you ask me. no need to repeat it...

cook. got a start. i watched him real hard his first two trips out on the floor. understand floor postioning very well, his ability to space himself to make himself available for a rebound or tip are underrated, while at the same time not drawing a double from his man. still things to work on. but has he cemented himself at the 3?

lighty, played the most mins weve seen out of him in a long time. id like to see a little more confidence on the offesnive end. being more assertive. i think you saw that in glimpses today. but more minutes will really bring this out.i hope.

oden, i say it everytime enjoy every moment of it. still has some of those same tendency ive harped on all year, but enjoy it. floor postioning a few lapses on d and foul trouble are the things he needs to work on...

hunter, offensively one of his best games, def didnt play his best. interesting though very little of the oden/hunter combo.

conley, hes quick and his "active" hands produced tos, though im afraid hes reaching and that may really hurt him in picking up fouls 70 feet from the basket. officials watch game tape and will notice his reaching, but so do other teams his pressure caused havoc and created tos...

ivan, played well. more of what i expected of him. scored a "silent" 14 if you ask me and i rarely noticed him on the def end of the floor also ( a good thing aka he wasnt getting beat)

butler, transforming player, id still like to see more of a killer instinct out of him. watch how guys watch him and look at him on dead balls. id like to see him go for the jugular...

flow of the game, minnesota was successfull when they were able to keep the intensity and pace of the game slower, i just dont mean up and down the floor but sideline to sideline. thats the key for the bucks, using the whole floor on both ends to create mismatches.

ohio state dominated, second chance points, points of tos, and bench poinits (until the game was signed sealed and delivered there at the end)

20 20 1, peters and titus are the 20 20 1 guys. they play if up by 20, down by 20 with 1 minute to go. but im sorry more than 50,000 kids and thats the best two you can pick up?

more to be said but its already been said over and over. at this point you know what you have and so does everyone in b10 play. the key is taking that and grinding it out, working on your weaknesses and dictating the game to your strengths.

big week ahead. at this point matta and co control their destiny...

Buckeyes prep for likely No. 1 spot with easy win

The No. 1 ranking in The Associated Press Top 25 is up for grabs Monday after top-ranked Florida lost at Vanderbilt on Saturday night, but Ohio State isn't the only team to have a legitimate claim.

The Buckeyes never looked back, and now they're looking toward a No. 1 ranking.

Entire article: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=270490135

Since both Ohio State and Florida now have 3 losses and Florida beat us (pretty bad) earlier in the season, I will be surprised if we are ranked #1 when the new polls come out.

I think maybe they don't
have to
lose to have a wake-up call. I think the PSU game was a good enough wake-up call for them. They played with a lot more of intensity for the full 40 minutes.

I still am not certain if I like TM's substitution pattern. It seemed like we were on a pretty good roll in the first half when he did his usual substitutions. I don't think the guys were tired and I think they could have extended the lead a little more before he substituted. I am still uncertain as to whether he is trying to keep guys happy or not. I don't like him substituting for Oden if he is not winded or is in foul trouble. When he is not on the floor, we are an entirely different team and I think we get out of the habit of not going through him when he comes back in.

I also agree that I think we settled for the 3-point shot too fast in the second half. In the first half, the guys were more set for the 3-pointer before they took it. Harris really needs to be set before he takes his 3-pointer but I also appreciated his defensive effort while he was in there.

I still would like to see Lewis take the ball to the rim more. I know that he did a lot more of it today and, for that, he played much better offensively. Hopefully, he will not forget that he did quite a bit of scoring around the basket.
I am not yet that impressed with DL's overall play. I think he brings a certain defenses intensity but he still lacks the offensive skills that I know will come. I also do not like MT taking so many outside shots. I know this did not hurt us today but when he is in there I would rather see him something for 10'-15' jump shots. I don't think Matta is putting him in for his 3-point ability and the sooner he realizes that the better he will be.

I also liked the fact that when our guys shot the 3-pointer they were following up on their shots. That is something that has been lacking all season.

If the Minnesota interim coach is noted for his defensive knowledge, I don't want him coaching my team.

I wonder why TM decided to start Cook over Lewis?? While I liked the change it was just strange why it happened.

Overall, I think this was one of our better games this year on both offense and defense but we have to remember who we were playing. The real test comes next Sunday and hopefully we will bring the same intensity level that we showed today.
